How to Save Money at Healthy Paws Veterinary Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have had many pets all my life and of course many nice vet appointments and not so happy appts. I was serching for a vet over a year ago and had gone to at least three vets with no success BUT when I tried here HEALTHY PAWS and found out my favorite Dr was there also I have not left My babies are happy and I am happy What a great crew they have there. Always a smile compassion for your pet AND you. Gtreat timely care The whole staff is so good with the animals. They walk around and hold your pets like they are holding there own When I have an Emergency I feel the care and also can help you if they cant. They return ALL your calls in a timely manner. I am just very happy where I am at And they offer so much more. Love HEALTHY PAWS

let me start off by saying if could put zero stars I would. I used to come here all the time and they were amazing but now they’re letting anyone work here. She asked me to grab my upset and scared cat who didn’t wanna be touched and put him on the counter. Aren’t they in charge of doing that stuff? When i said i couldn’t she stood there awkwardly. the doctor barely checked him, she kept him on the floor and didn’t care to try and listen to his heart and lungs she said “I heard it a little it sounds fine” and offered me a bunch of medication for things i didn’t come for and things he absolutely didn’t need. They want nothing but your money. This checkup took literally 5 min. I came regarding a scab on my cats chin. She said she could only feel it because my cat wouldn’t let her see it, and they prescribe me with a dog spray. DONT COME HERE

I have been using Healthy Paws for 18 years now. I haven't seen Dr. Steve in a while but the other Doctors are all great. Caring staff, reasonable prices, good hours, I cannot complain. I have had many dogs go through their doors and I have been pleased with their care. All of the staff really care about your furry family member as if they were their own. When I picked up my girl from a few day vacation (boarding) she was excited to see me but I could tell she bonded with the staff. The gentleman that was taking care of her was sad to see her go. Even when you have to say the final goodbye as much as is possible the staff make it easier. They are very respectful. As I said my oldest has been with them since they were next door to the pet shop east of where they are now. I moved out of state but on a visit home she got sick, I called them and they said bring her in. They took care of her as they always did. When I moved back if course I brought my pack to them for their care. My dogs go their when my parents had dogs they went their. Love you guys at Healthy Paws.

1st they tried to over charge me by $350 but said it was a typo when I said something about how does 1mg of anything cost over $400. Then took my $1600 to fix Merlins urinary blockage. 2 days after the procedure we called because we were concerned about his recovery. They dismissed us and said it's normal. 1 week after the procedure Merlin started making the same noises as before the procedure. They wouldn't even look at him for less than $90. Mind you i am not rich. At all. We took him to another vet that told us the damage to his kidneys had already been done and wasn't reversible. Today we said goodbye to Merlin. I believe they will get you for every dollar they can because they prey on people's love for their best friends. Don't bring your family members here.

We were preparing a dog for export to Taiwan and they were very helpful and got all the documentation submitted for us. This is a very complicated process. Thank goodness for the staff at Healthy Paws.
