How to Save Money at Thomas and England Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vet who cares! Should be the name! Always the most helpful and amazing staff! The vets actually truly care about our pets! They want to see our best friends come home and do absolutely everything in their power to make it happen and then some! They offer comfort in our time of need as we wait to see the outcome of the tests thinking and dreading the worst they don't turn away and shame you for having feelings in public, instead they offer solace and understanding. One of very few vets who are left helping the animals and not their bank accounts... They make it as affordable as possible for everyone and they do it with love in their hearts! Thank you a million!

I just took my 2 beagles Luke and Jedi in for thier first visit here and everyone is fantastic they are 2 years old and needed shot updates I have 1 beagle that walked in and lets them do anything to him my other beagle not so much he suffers from anxiety and panics a lot, but with his anxiety medicine and the vet being so patient with him, he did a little better than his previous visits at the other Vet. They’re very kind and patient with him and didn’t push him to do anything that he didn’t want to do, these guys are amazing and very caring and we love this Vet already they all did an amazing job. My one dog that suffers with anxiety was still shaking a little bit walking in, but they did a great job with him and worked with him we had a great first experience and I would recommend to anybody.

I love this place and so do my babies! I have always had positive experiences with the vets here, especially Dr. Thompson and Dr. Dugger. They treat my cats with care and always take into consideration if a treatment will be worthwhile for them or more harmful/not worth it overall. They make sure to express they would like to hear from you about how your pets are doing to make sure what they have recommended is working or if additional steps should be taken. The front office staff has always been accommodating when I have asked to get them in sooner or to be on their waitlist for the next available appointment. I have found their prices to be much more affordable than places in Bowling Green and surrounding areas and the level of care is unmatched. Thank you so much for all that you all do!

Visited for the first time today and I cannot express how wonderful these folks are here! They treated my dog with the upmost compassion and listened to all my concerns. They are truly about the well-being of your pet through and through

I had high hopes for this veterinary clinic, but my experience was incredibly disappointing. First, they don’t offer a veteran discount, which is frustrating, especially when so many other businesses recognize and appreciate those who have served. On top of that, I spent money transferring my pet’s records to them, only to find out they don’t work with Chewy’s online pharmacy, making it much more difficult (and expensive) to get necessary medications. When I expressed my frustration and let them know I’d be taking my business elsewhere due to the unnecessary hassle, they didn’t seem to care at all. Customer service and appreciation clearly aren’t priorities here. If you’re looking for a vet that values your time, money, and loyalty—look elsewhere. If I could give them zero stars I would.
