How to Save Money at Kutter Pet Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was sure my 8 year old cat was on his deathbed after almost 5 days of not eating, drinking, and barely moving. I took a chance on taking him to Kutter Pet Care because they were open first thing in the morning on Monday at 7:30. Even as a brand new customer, they treated me with such courtesy and respect and were able to fit my cat in within hours of me calling. He was hospitalized with low RBC count. I was super impressed with the kindness, knowledge, and care provided by every level of the vet team. I was provided with regular updates which helped calm my worries. He came home after three days of hospitalization and he is right back to himself. I'm SO thankful for the care that he received. I would have been devastated if anything happened to him. Much love to the staff for being so empathetic and on-top of it. Kutter Pet Care will now be our regular vet.

We have always had excellent care for all of our cats and dogs at Kutter Pet Care! They have very nice staff! Our animals actually get excited to see them when we arrive. We have never had to wait for the vet tech or veterinarian to come in for our appointment time. They offer everything that our animals need and more. As long as we live in Kansas, this is the only veterinary clinic we will go to.

I really can't say enough positive things about this office and their staff. They were always so polite and caring when we brought our sweet girl Precious in for visits. When we had to put her down unexpectedly a month ago, the staff were so professional yet honest and caring. They even sent us a card with Precious' paw prints and a little note and signature from everyone in the office. They truly made us and our girl feel so cared for. I cannot recommend this Vet office enough, and we will return in the future!

When they were privately owned, this was one of the best vet clinics around, since they sold to a corporation, the focus went from customer satisfaction to profit. I stopped using the vet service a few years back because of the increase in prices but continued to use the groomers until now! I was told his vaccinations (except rabies) expired that month and needed to be updated. They charge individually for these shots so they can maximize profit even though it is actually one vial that contains multiple vaccines ($17.99 at any farm supply store) Just pinch the skin behind the neck, administer the the shot and your done. A simple procedure which they charge an average of $40.00 per disease as if they were giving these shots individually which they are not. I was then told he needed a fecal test. Their price ($75.00), Another local vet ($45.00). Once I satisfied their requirements, i tried to make a grooming appointment and was told they would not recognize the vaccinations unless given by a vet. This is nothing more than a blatant attempt to pad their bottom line. There is no law against giving your own vaccinations with the exception of rabies. My new groomer had no issues with me giving my own vaccines and my new vet annotated his records as being current, neither tried to upcharge me. Just a short time ago, Kutter pet care had a five star rating, now they seem to be in a race to get to the bottom.

We have taken our dogs to Kutter for many years (probably 20). We have always felt they do a great job and take care of our "fur babies".
