How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hands down one of the most underrated vet clinics in the area. Words can not describe how grateful I am for the vets and staff here. A few months ago my guinea pig was experiencing severe neurological issues. Although them not being an exotic vet , they still treated my baby! A few weeks after however, my pet started to decline. And once again they took her in despite closing and provided euthanasia. Through out the entire process the vet was so so compassionate. And even reached out to other exotic vets for emergency meds. I will continue to recommend this place to everyone!

My dog had a few accidents in the house over night Saturday into Sunday, was panting hard and super uncomfortable, so rather than wait to see our Vet on Monday, we drove an hour to come here. Best care we’ve had in a long time! The vet was wonderful and explained everything thoroughly before doing anything and the tech came in and gave us prices before any tests were performed. We were at the vet a couple hours, but they had to run urine and blood work, so I’m not even mad. They ended up sending us home with antibiotics. If we ever need a vet in a pinch again we will definitely be visiting them again! Side note: I also called an Emergency Vet in Mokena when i was trying to find somewhere to bring our dog and they were not very friendly or helpful. UrgentVet was polite and helpful both on the phone and in person. They even brought her a bowl of water while we waited for results. Thank you all so very much!

My little 13 year-old dog was throwing up was not able to get him to the vet in Ottawa for three days. Someone told me about joilet And I’m happy that I went and got my little boy looked at. I can’t remember the vets name. She was so sweet. My dog loved her and when she explained to me everything that was wrong she was very thorough. Plus she just seems like a genuine good person. The only thing I didn’t really like of course was the pricing. I mean $1100 for some blood work And some anti-diarrhea and nausea medicine yikes!! Other than that, I can’t complain my Teddy is doing better and that’s all that matters.

These drs and techs are the best! They’re super friendly and have taken such good care of my 145 lbs dog twice now in a pinch. The office is always clean and the staff is very accommodating. We will continue to use them, just wish they weren’t an hour away!

Though it is pricey..as expected.but they worked with me, which was great! The fact that they were open and available when my cat needed urgent help on a holiday was incredible. They are good at explaining everything before they do it, even giving the cost - not making you feel any guilt for the choices of treatment you choose. The process can be a bit time consuming as I am a nurse and have a good understanding of medical things,.but I do understand why they do what they do as not everyone has medical knowledge. But the vet gave a good exam and they presented her findings with the appropriate options. I felt they were very caring and empathetic to my needs with my senior cat becoming ill all of a sudden and the fact that i had to leave my 92 year old mother home alone to go there and they were able to rush the things they could. I appreciated how they handled her and loved on her. I appreciated the call the following day to check on her and the options they gave me. All around a good experience and I am so happy they opened up here and I don't have to go to the one that used to be in Plainfield. The appointments they schedule work very well..beats waiting for hours like we used to. I also caught a glimpse of the room where they euthanize and it looked like they made it a special place if you end up there...not just a cold, bright exam room..which is incredible. I usually have a vet come out to the house when the end comes..and that is the best way to do it, I think. But, if you don't have a choice, as we don't always get that choice, it seems like it would be a fine place to experience the loss. I feel comfortable and a sense of security knowing that they will be there when I need them as I have 2 - 20 year old cats..going on 21...and I know that anything could happen at anytime..like it did. Thank you for everything you did for Savannah and me at our visit.
