How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely amazing vet visit! Took my new adopted puppy, Ratchet in to get him checked out at the Longmont location and the ladies there were absolutely great! They were very informative and caring and even called the next morning to check on my little guy. We're definitely Looking forward to our next visit with the Longmont Banfield team!

I had a visit end of January 2025 at Longmont Banfield. I had been there before and had a really great experience. This visit I was so very disappointed. I have 2 dogs and the one I brought in can be difficult. He did give the staff some issues and they ended up not being able to perform some requested services which is fine. However, I was charged for one service and had to take him to another location to have this done because he was still having issues. They also charged me for an office visit which did not happen. The vet came out and said she could not really look over him and had no feedback regarding his overall health, dental, etc. She said she was not even able to look in his mouth. My issue was that they never came and got me so I could calm him down. I did receive a call from the manager and she said she would talk to the vet. I requested a summary of the visit and have still yet to get one. I was charged $73.95 for a visit that never happened and $46.66 for a treatment that clearly was not taken care of. However, they gave me Trazodone for the next visit. I would have hoped the manager would have made it right after she acknowledged the office visit was an issue. Care is expensive especially when you have to pay for it twice. I have moved on, but hope when move difficult pets come through the door, they work with the owners better or don't charge for something they were not able to perform.

This was the first time I’ve brought my pup to a stand alone Banfield and this location was fabulous. It was quick and professional. The staff and vet were very pleasant! We’ll definitely be back!

Banfield Pet Hospital is close to where I live and that's a plus. I had to do a followup with them and the second time is a charm. I feel a lot more confident in them now. I wasn't happy with the outcome of the first visit. Everyone was very informative, and helpful in understanding the next step in my animal's recovery. I have to say thank you for your insight and kindness C.J.

Id five a 0 star review if that was an option! Their wellness plan is a joke and this is a corporate scam that takes advantage of people and their pets! I had to euthanize my cat (which was honestly they’re fault) and are still making me pay for this plan that they never even provided all the “benefits and care “ this plan swears they offer. It’s a manipulative and malicious strategy to get people to pay them money. Don’t waste your time!
