How to Save Money at Millville Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve had mixed experiences at Millville Veterinary Clinic. One of our dogs had a very positive visit. The veterinarian we saw was kind, gentle, and very comforting to our dog, which we really appreciated. There was also a lab issue where results were mishandled and we had to repeat samples, but the testing facility waived the cost of the retesting as it was their mistake. The vet herself was compassionate and overall that visit felt positive. Unfortunately, our experience with our other dog was very different. The veterinarian we saw during that appointment felt much more pushy and didn’t take time to make our dog comfortable. We had also paid for annual testing and were instructed to return samples on the day of her scheduled surgery. To be safe, we brought the sample in a week early, but were then told it was past the deadline and that we would need to pay again to have the testing completed, which we already paid for. Because of the unexpected additional charge, we chose not to proceed with the second test. This was frustrating since we followed the instructions given by the clinic, and it felt unfair to be placed in that position. We’ve had positive experiences here in the past and would like to continue using the clinic, so I hope the practice might review what happened and consider making this situation right.

Been bringing my dogs here for years we brought our husky in due to a false pregnancy just in case is was a infection instead charged us 400.00 to tell us what we already knew called back two days later because now my dog is not eating and they told us we will have to spend more money to go any further with it will be finding a new vet can’t believe after all these years this is how they treat us not to mention the astronomical price they charged us to tell us what we already knew no compassionate this place at all they care about the money very very displeased with them and will probably never go back

Been coming to MVC since early 2000. The care they show and knowledge they have for my fur kids is simply the very best. I love the family feeling I get when we go and the gentle touch they have for those tough decision times when have had to let go of our babies. They have welcomes in new lives with our kids as well as helped to make their last day easier. They have saved 2 of my pooches from certain death (one had eaten a foot off a stuffed toy...it lodged in the small hook of his stomach (hard to find area) and the other pooch at birth with a hard to diagnose, rare case of worms, in his lungs). Their prices are reasonable and let's face it no one likes paying for medical cost let alone vet cost, but the service and follow up service they give it over the top. You do get a lot more than your actually paying for with the care they give YOU & YOUR fur kids...it may be a tad of a drive from Redding, but I promise it is so worth it. We truly will go no where else. I have tried a couple other vet clinics, locally, and there is no way I will go anywhere else. Thank you for the past 17 years of taking care of my fur family! Doc Randy & Doc Jen...you guys are just simply the best!!! Oh and your staff is pretty great too ;) With fur lick kisses and hugs from the Aristo-Frey Family, THANK YOU!!

Wonderful quality care. They may not be the lowest cost out there but they give great service and they really care about your animal and your peace of mind. Only place I take my fur babies!

The worse vet office I've ever been to. The vet assistants and office receptionist should all be educated on proper and maybe nice with a big of good customer service. Ill never come back here and im warning everyone else to not come here ever.
