How to Save Money at Ocean Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is such a hidden gem. I noticed it on my drive home a few months ago & to my surprise it was a new vet hospital. When I saw the reviews I made my first appointment. It exceeded the reviews & we are so happy to have Dr Rahbari as our new vet. Dr Rahbari is a breath of fresh air, kind, thorough & has wonderful bedside manner. Welcome to Lomita Dr Rahbari.

I almost left within the first five minutes of arriving when the doctor wanted to talk about mass murderers and Jeffrey Dahmer. Not the best way to meet someone. Nearly killed my dog, ballooned expenses, and took 8 hours to remedy extraneous complications caused by this visit. Important to note, my dog is 13 years old. About an hour after appt my dog had a severe allergic reaction to prescribed medication for a UTI. Called back multiple times and there was no answer. Left multiple messages. Emailed. Texted. Drove back to the office hoping he was with another patient. Found the office closed. Dr. R's voicemail said to call/go to ACCESS ER. When I got there, his office was not on file. None of the receptionists had heard of his practice. Ended up paying an additional $260 to fix the allergic reaction. Was there for just over 2 hours. Because I was not supplied record of the visit, ACCESS vet ER could not help with antibiotics to treat her UTI unless I paid another $500 for another urinalysis. Now she is sedated for the allergy to the medication and in pain for the UTI. Will have to pay for another Urinalysis and for a new antibiotic from another veterinarian, which will cost another $200. Expense has ballooned to near $600 for the treatment of a UTI with the added stress of the near death of my dog. I did receive calls back on the following Monday, around noon. Not from the doctor, from one of his staff members. If he truly cared, the doctor would have returned the call. I received 4+ frantic phone calls in the span of about 5 hours while at work. These calls were not about the care of my dog, they wanted the reviews removed. They did manage to have this review removed from Yelp, skewing the perception of their business. Yelp is currently in the process of reinstating. When I asked them not to contact me any more it was due to harassment. I also mentioned that a medical facility should get in the habit of checking their messages to support their community. If they were running a Burger King, their current business practices would make more sense. Pet owners beware.

Outstanding surgeon and an incredibly honest veterinarian. Both of my Standard Poodles had tumors removed from very sensitive areas, and they recovered with no complications. Professional, caring, and fairly priced. I’m extremely grateful and highly recommend him.

cannot say enough good things about Dr. Aidin. From the very first visit, it was clear that he genuinely cares about the health and well-being of my dog. He is not only highly knowledgeable and professional, but also incredibly compassionate and patient—both with pets and their owners. Dr. Aidin takes the time to explain everything clearly, answers all questions without rushing, and always makes sure we feel comfortable with the treatment plan. My dog feels at ease around him, which says a lot about his gentle approach and experience with animals. It’s rare to find a veterinarian who combines such expertise with kindness and dedication. I truly trust Dr. Aidin and feel grateful knowing my dog is in such capable hands. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a caring and skilled veterinarian.
