How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

See my reviews of shopping center. Great help, saved my boy from liver damage. All my pets are neutered and I'm sure if I didn't have insurance it would have cost over 3000. With great staff and itemized detailed information you get your money's worth 'in the long run' don't beat yourself treat yourself to a committed staff and insurance coverage.

Between getting put on hold for 40 minutes just to be hung up on at and have them close the clinic. To trying to rush us out of the clinic and my pet getting stabbed (when my pets still bleeding 5 minutes after the injection that’s not proper care) we will never be going back to this vet again. Please properly train your staff on how to do injections and proper bedside manner when both the animal and owners are upset with your care.

So me and my girlfriend brought our cat here. He was a stray that we took in so we wanted get him checked for fleas etc. The doctor basically told us he had no fleas and was healthy outside of his dental work and we were basically said "okay that's good". Come to found out later that the doctor lied to us. He did have fleas and it wasn't recent they had been on him for a while. Then apparently he also had asthma and we noticed certain things weren't even mentioned in the paperwork. The doctor told us the cat wouldn't allow them to draw blood and that he kept moving. Now I'm of the impression they didn't even try to draw his blood. I basically spent almost $200 dollars for that doctor to lie to both of our faces. I don't even think the cat has asthma now that's how much he lied. Then if you sign up for their care plan it's even more BS. That first visit was the only visit we ever did. After we found out we were lied to, we decided we're not going back there and i canceled the plan. Well as i was trying to cancel they told me I needed to pay the remaining balance for the services I used which was over $50. The thing is we only went in once and that visit we didn't have the care plan. I paid everything out of pocket. They charged me for things I didn't even use. I wasn't going to keep paying for a plan I wasn't going to use so I was out another payment to these people to be free. I do not recommend this place in the slightest.

If you have a puppy that has abandonment issues do not take them to this location. I made sure to have an appointment where I would be able to sit with my puppy and the doctor so my puppy would be less stressed and although I had schedule the appointment this way, the vet tech took my puppy and put him in a kennel. While me and my fiancé waited the doctor came in and I could hear my puppy crying, and screaming while the doctor was talking to us what seemed the whole time the doc was in the room. It seemed that the vet tech didn’t make an attempt to check on my puppy as the doctor had to leave the room out of suspicion that it was our puppy. When he came back he told us that he was put in a kennel by himself which is why he was crying the whole time. I could hear my dog stop crying when someone picked him up which is when the doctor came to check what was going on. Having previously stated that my puppy has abandonment issues I feel as though there was no effort put in to make sure he was comfortable as now he is afraid of kennels due to this experience. I will be going to a different location.
