How to Save Money at Dr Carr's Pet Repair

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Carr is the best veterinarian we have ever had since we moved to Arizona. He will address the problem make suggestions but leaves the decision up to the pet parents. There is NO pushy sales tactics at all. He is very knowledgeable, caring and we really feel like he is truly giving us the best and more importantly HONEST opinions and advice with the well-being of our pet in mind. We love Dr Carr, we currently live in Casa Grande but we have decided he is well worth the drive. I highly recommend Dr Carr! Also his staff is awesome! Very friendly.

Dr Carr and his staff are all amazing! Everyone is always so kind, helpful and welcoming. We were quoted $2,800 - $3,200 to repair cherry eye on our basset hound by 3 other vets and told it was a 50/50 chance of it coming back. Dr Carr took the time to explain the process of the surgery and how to prevent it from reoccurring. He said he was 90% sure it wouldn’t return and only charged $600 for the surgery. Here we are over a year later and no sign of cherry eye reoccurring. Nor can you tell she even had surgery. He is absolutely amazing and is totally worth the 60 mile drive for us to bring our fur babies to his office. He is down to earth knowledgeable trustworthy and the absolute best vet we’ve had in 30 years. Huge thank you to Dr Carr and staff for all that you do. All of you show a genuine love for all the animals in your office.

I just want to publicly say thank you! Thank you for caring for our pet and for taking care of her needs without over charging for your services. Let me explain for anyone interested… we recently discovered that our 8 year old Chihuahua Pomeranian mix had a very loose tooth. We were concerned about doing an extraction ourselves with her nervous temperament, and unsure of what pain it would cause her so we took her to our vet (not Dr Carr) where we were given a quote for a $2600 dental procedure for the tooth removal. We were, of course, in shock at the price tag so looked for a second opinion and found Dr. Carr. After a brief consultation, Dr. Carr felt comfortable extracting the tooth in office without an anesthesia, and our dog was one tooth less and pain-free within seconds. With a $70 price tag. As a consumer in an already expensive world, I am so appreciative of a business that didn’t take advantage of us and still took care of our pet. You have a new customer for life! Thank you, Dr Carr!!

Dr. Carr really showed me what a urban vet can and should be. He spent the time getting to know my dog, getting her comfortable with him so he can safely complete the procedures needed. Affordable. Clean office, friendly staff. We found our vet.

Dr. Carr and his crew are the best. I took my dog and two cats (plus my friend's cat) to this clinic for more than a year now and have always been very happy and satisfied with the service. He treated one of our kittens broken patella without a surgical intervention which saved us lots of trouble and cost. He treated a variety of conditions with my dog and we always trusted his decisions and recommendations. He always answers all of my questions. The front desk and assistants are amazing too. Although we have good vets much closer to our home, I always take my furry children to Dr. Carr's clinic. His prices are reasonable and waiting time is usually very short.
