How to Save Money at Animal Emergency and Specialty Center of Northwest Arkansas

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I truly couldn’t have been happier with my experience at this ER clinic. The facility is well kept and updated. The communication and response was amazing and quick. I specifically had the pleasure of meeting Dr Todd and Laney and they were professional, kind, caring, and understanding to all my thoughts, feelings, and concerns. I want to thank the entire staff that possibly worked on my geriatric Labrador who gave me an incredible scare early this morning. As a member of the veterinary profession for the past 20 years my anxiety over entrusting medical staff I have yet to meet or directly being apart of my pets care quickly resolved because of the empathy and compassion. These staff members clearly care about the quality of medicine they are providing. Theodore, my husband, and myself are eternally grateful.

I don’t even know where to start. Our sweet dachshund, Wally, has congestive heart failure and it’s a long story, but we thought we were going to lose him. This amazing place saved his life (wish I could name them all), with the help of Dr. Jarod Williams from the specialty clinic. We are so incredibly grateful to this team of Dr’s, nurses, and front desk staff. They truly care, and gave Wally so much love for us while he was in their care overnight. Wally is back to his spunky, loving self today. I assume to main reason for “negative” reviews is associated with cost, but when it comes to saving our babies, that doesn’t matter. Also, we were surprised and it came out to be less than we expected. We can’t say thank you enough.

There is a special place in hell for people like you. My shepherd didn't have to die. You could have saved him. GREED. LAZINESS. UNETHICAL. BULLIES. because we didn't have $7k upfront you kept pressuring to euthanize, gave us a timeframe to either get the money or euthanize, or they would make the choice. It's 3 am whose going to have that kind of money in these times? Couldn't even get a solid quote "could be this or it could be that" go to any other doctor quote set, procedure performed, bill set for payments. Not this place. Nothing but a kill factory. We had a good chunk of the bill and a loan for the remainder but they still wouldn't accept. Now our rex is gone because you chose to deny service because of greed.

I ended up at this 24/7 ER vet, and as painful as the trip was, they were AMAZING. Truly. I ended up having to put my loving 15 year long emotional support dog to sleep in February. It was my first time encountering that situation and they were kind and walked me through everything going on. My baby boy was possibly minutes away from death when we got to the vet. And I'm disabled. And these folks, especially Dr. Martin, were SO kind & compassionate. Due to being essentially indigent and him being my emotional support dog, they said not to worry about any payment. I cannot express how grateful I am to these folks, who made one of the worst experiences in my life at least a little bit easier. So thank you AESCNWA, for all that you did for me and continue to do for others. There are no words to express the gratitude I have for your entire staff when I was there. So thank you. SO much.

Our boxer , Razzie wasn't feeling well. we took her to Animal Urgent Care Hospital in Bentonville and they transferred her to the ER since she wasn't improving after being at the urgent care for 3 hours. We had to leave her at the ER overnight. The staff, nurses and vets are very attentive. we received updates periodically and was able to check on Razzie during her stay there. Razzie ended up needing a surgery. Before, during and after surgery, we received prompt updates. My husband was able to visit her 2 hours after she woke up from her surgery. It's been almost 2 week after her surgery, and she is doing wonderful! We can't thank you enough for everything! During our visit to the ER, we also learnt that we can sign one of our dog up as a donor for Animal Blood Bank of Arkansas! We are thrilled to hear this news. We will be taking our Remi next week for assessment to be a donor.
