How to Save Money at Westridge Animal Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough good things about this clinic! Finding a veterinarian who is truly knowledgeable and compassionate about rabbits can be difficult, but this team exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, I felt heard, supported, and completely at ease. The vet handled Millie with such gentleness and genuine care, and took the time to explain everything clearly. After a visit to another vet in Jonesboro the day before it meant the world to find a clinic that put us both at ease. It was obvious that Millie wasn’t just another patient — she was treated with kindness, respect, and expert care. She’s my baby & Dr.Hardin and her nurse treated her as such. I am incredibly grateful to have found a vet I can trust completely and cannot recommend this clinic highly enough to any rabbit owner looking for exceptional, compassionate care! Not just a good experience but also cheaper!

Thank you Westridge for saving Cutie’s life. You all allowed me to call as much as I wanted for updates ( even after hours) on her condition during the week she was hospitalized and were always very compassionate about any concerns. Your staff were so lovely when we came to visit her and let us stay as long as we needed. She is doing great now and looking better every day. ❤️🐈 I highly recommend taking your pets here and they will be in the hands of good people 💕

5 years of going to this vet. Very disappointed that they didn’t announce they wouldn’t have Veterinarians for week or a weekend, (not sure I was kind of in a state of an emergency) regardless there should’ve been at least had one veterinarian there to help guide the vets office or a step in, for emergencies maybe a quick text considering they texted me for dental care visits, but neglected to tell me they were taking time off. The assistance in the Front office said “ could not recommend any other vets in the Area but they could tell me one who work for there business for a DAY but he is in ash, flat” an hour and something (Red flags.) So I go somewhere else local and find out They’re overcharging for Nexx guard flea medication. 35 for a shot unless you buy six you get a discount but it’s sells for 25 in others (no need to over by) more red flags. They also don’t give you many options. when this older gentleman worked for them he was helpful gave you all the options but he not there anymore. I can see why now. So My cat of 17 had a ripped claw and they tell me to go to a different vet because no one is here to help but the sign says open with no recommendations no compassion and I felt a lot of judgment when I said I had five cats. it’s just sad you want to trust people, but I’m having a hard time trusting this Vet. I will be going somewhere else from now on out.

Worked in our sick pup when we couldn't get emergency vet care locally. Dr. Hardin and the clinic staff are wonderful. Next time our local vet isn't available, this group is worth the drive.

Westridge AH and Dr. Hardin have always been good to our pets. I trust the care my animals receive and am grateful for all the help they provide.
