How to Save Money at Southeast Arkansas Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So I personally LOVE this very. Super affordable, friendly and always willing to help! We boarded our dogs for the week while on vacation and they took THE BEST care of them! They sent updates so we knew how they were doing and we will DEFINITELY be using them again! Plus the environment was just right for my pups and they did SO well!

I took my 18 yr old cat to these ppl for an ear infection. She done an exam. Found that it was a ear infection. Put her on antibotic ear drops. The infection seemed to clear up in about 2 weeks but then it was back 2 months later. She claimed it was just extra ear wax buildup because of her age. I continued using the ear drops until it ran out. Then continued cleaning her ears every couple of days. I had asked her to do a full blood lab on her to find out why she was dropping weight. She claims she only got enough blood to do a glucose test which came back normal. She drew blood from my baby's neck which I have never seen before. Sissy's ear got infected again. This time I took her to a different vet. He did a culture of the pus, sent it to state lab, came back the ear was sepsis. He gave her antibiotic ear drops plus one by mouth. 2 weeks later he did a full blood workup and found that Sissy has hyperthyroidism. She died one week later. If Dr. Bushnoc had done the bloodwork like I asked my Sissy may still be alive. When I requested her medical records it took me 2 months to get them. They don't show that she did any bloodwork but I have the receipt where I paid for one. I don't recommend this vet to anybody. She is lazy, half does her job. She does no more than necessary. She only comes to the clinic when her receptionist calls her to come. She needs to stop treating ppl's pets if she no longer cares. When you take your baby to a vet, you expect them to do whatever it takes to make your baby well. If she just had done the bloodwork like I had asked with Sissy being under 8 lbs (that was a red-flag something was wrong) we would have caught the hyperthyroidism early enough that it could have been treated and maybe I could have enjoyed having my baby a couple more years. Instead I watched my baby go from 7.3 lbs down to 4.3 lbs in less than two weeks. She had gotten so aggressive toward me when trying to clean that ear and give her liquid antibotics. I couldn't stand seeing her be so emaciated, I had made an appt to have her put down but she didn't make it she died that morning. No baby should have to suffer like I believe my Sissy did because a vet doesn't do her job. Now I sit heartbroken because my precious baby is no longer here for me to love. The bottom line is, Dr. Bushnoc was neglective with the care of my baby. She will NEVER treat another one of my babies. I hope if you are reading this, that you take your babyies elsewhere, even if it costs more, to get the medical help that they need. If you look at the three photos I posted the 2nd and 3rd is how beautiful my Sissy was. The 1st one was taken just a couple of weeks before she passed. Look at the difference in her fur. She was no longer grooming herself. Her cost looked really rough. I was combing her to keep her fur from matting. You can see just how sick my baby was and this vet wasn't doing anything to help her.

They take good care of my fur baby! I trust them with his life. My boy is almost 14 and has a heart condition. The vet assistants there is knowledgeable and compassionate….. my boy goes to puppy day care when I’m afraid to leave him home alone and I don’t have to worry while I work. Also the vet is available anytime I need her to give him a look over. She is well seasoned and knows exactly how to fix my baby up. I am a smother mother to my fur baby, I admit he’s spoiled rotten. That’s why he deserves the best care in Pune bluff! I’m glad I found this vet.

Even though where I live, there are a lot of options I like to stick to who I know is going to treat me and my fur baby with kindness and compassion!!! The Lady at the front desk is always very nice and You can tell they care about your pet

The staff is very professional and caring. There's a warm and genuine family like atmosphere the minute you walk in the door. They go above and beyond because that's what they do naturally. They also have the most reasonable prices of any veterinarians office I've seen in the area. I absolutely love them. I've tried other vet's offices around town and they cold and indifferent, and ridiculously expensive.
