How to Save Money at Harrison Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. They got down on my pets level to make her feel more comfortable. I brought her in to check for a microchip and get checked for any injuries. They were very thorough.

To say I had an amazing experience is an understatement! My sweet indoor/outdoor cat, Turkey, got bobcat fever unfortunately, which snowballed into other large medical issues. When I called concerned with the symptoms she was experiencing the receptionist was kind, responsive, informative, and very helpful. After my drive from Branson, the techs and Dr. Senne took the immediate action to save my girl. After her emergency surgery I was informed with what was happening, provided an action plan, and I knew she was in the best hands. They were clear with the prices, and what would be needed, it took the guessing game out (which was awesome). Out of all this, my best experience was with one of their techs, Madison! She went above and beyond in every way possible! She gave me daily updates, answered my phone calls and any additional questions I had, and so much more. I am so thankful for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion. I am incredibly impressed with this clinic and their staff, and everyone that worked hard behind the scenes. Thanks to them my little Turkey made it, and I am so grateful!

They are very friendly and accommodating. My dog cooper amd hubby’s cat are a new patient and they really took care of them. If you have any concern in regards to your furbabies they really try helping you out. I will surely recommended it.

I’m not really one to write poor reviews for places but I unfortunately feel the need to for this vet. Our dog was attacked by another dog unfortunately and had 2 deep cuts on his leg that needed to be stitched up, one on his thigh and one really big cut where my dogs leg connects to his torso. This vet stitched up the cut on his thigh however failed to mention that they didn’t stitch up the one underneath his belly until the next day when we were home and able to get a better look under him. Obviously freaked out by the sight of his huge cut, thinking he somehow got ahold of the stitches and ripped them out. We then called the vet and they apologized for not mentioning at pick up that they didn’t stitch up that area because the tissue was too weak. They assured us it was okay and it would do more damage to stitch the area. So we monitored him over the next day and he was obviously in so much pain and was unable to lay still, causing the wound to keep reopening and getting bigger. I knew this was an issue and it wouldn’t heal if my dog was able to keep opening the wound, so I immediately took him to an emergency vet in Springfield to get a second opinion. They said that he definitely needed to be stitched up and that his tissue was completely healthy to get stitched up. It was just really frustrating that we had to go to two separate clinics and therefore pay more than needed in vet bills to get my dog the help he needed. I knew it wasn’t right that he was sent home with a huge slice underneath him without any pain medication. Truly broke my heart to see my baby in that much pain.
