How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They did an emergency surgery on my dog on a Saturday. We were traveling and not patients at this vet but they got us in quickly and saved us a trip to medvet. Everyone communicated very well and kept us informed of our pets care! The vet and staff stayed way past closing time to finish her surgery and allow her to wake up. Since then someone reached out to check on her Saturday night and Sunday. Very kind and caring people. We are forever thankful for the care they took of our pup.

If I could rate this place zero stars I would. If you truly care for your pets DO NOT take them here. All they want is your money and your dog will end leaving more sick. My dog was 14 years old and had a great happy life before he was taken here. He would run, play, eat, and drink. My family was recommended to clean his teeth by Banfield, they never mentioned this would result in him passing away. After the anesthesia my dog grew very sick and could not walk, eat, drink, or even go to the bathroom on his own. We continued to take him back to Banfield for help and they did not take accountability for what they did. Instead they tried to milk us of more money and recommend us to a different dog hospital?!? This place truly devastated me and took my dog’s life away from me.

A disappointment. If what you are looking for is vaccines and preventative treatment, it's fine, but the same things are available elsewhere, and cheaper. The equipment is so old that the XRs are of very poor quality. They offer zero resolution. The doctor has to guess what they are seeing. They cancel your appointment whenever they want. Room appointment Saturday the 19th at 2pm. "I told her, 'My pet tires very quickly, can you refer me to another Banfield hospital? Go to a hospital,' Grayson told me." I had the best experience with Banfield, the OWP. You, the reader, don't believe me? If you already have the app, the medical chat concludes: take your pet to a nearby veterinarian or hospital that is not Banfield. The other chat is for payments, which is important to them. Can you give me the customer service number? They can't give it to you. I paid for the OWP for 5 years, and the first time I had an emergency, Banfield was useless. I took my pet to TVRC on oxygen. The Banfield XRs offer poor resolution. They are useless, same price. I sent both XRs outside the US, BF poor resolution. After 72 hours and almost $10k, my beloved pet died. Diagnosis: It wasn't detected in time; there's nothing more that can be done, medically speaking. Today, a part of me has died, and it's true that she still lives on in my heart; in other words, it's broken. BF can be upset by this review or take her clients seriously and equip and improve. Stop cheating with the OWP Optimus Wellness Plan.

The experience at Banfield clinic has been extremely disappointing. My dog was put under anesthesia for teeth cleaning with elevated kidney levels. A medical professional should know that if a dog has elevated kidney levels and is 14 years old should not be put under anesthesia. The kidneys exert waste from the body and my dog was poisoned with the toxins from the anesthesia and his body isn’t able to flush it out properly due to the lack of kidney function. The patient education provided at this clinic is lacking and needs improvement. The clinical judgement used at this center is very sad and they should have known better then to even let my family follow through with that procedure. As a medical professional I am extremely dissatisfied with the care that was provided to my animal here. My dog sparky passed away today on 07-09-2024. This message is to let other animal lovers know this place does not have your best interests and only wants your money. I’m not sure what waivers my family signed but the real concern is why would that minor teeth procedure even be considered an option based on the animals labs and history profile. It’s a terrible thing that has happened and it is very sad my dog had to pass in such a terrible way due to the lack of bare minimum medical judgement.

I love this pet hospital! The staff is so caring. They gave my kitty the full exam as he swatted , hissed and bit at them. General was a scared camper but happy with the care they offered for his ear mites. Thank you for your consistent empathy and prompt attention to all my fur babies well being.
