How to Save Money at Branchville Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had an issue with our cat rubbing her butt on the carpet in January. Took her in and they just gave her flea medicine and told us to come back if we noticed the issue continuing. It happened a few times thereafter but it was so sporadic we just thought it was because she was a long hair cat. Well we set up an appointment again for today and specifically requested a fecal float (normal 5 minute process) and a potty grooming (we were told on the phone they didn't do that). Well when we got there they gave us more flea medicine, did a half attempted potty groom, and a scoop for us to collect a #2 sample. So for $160 we were basically told here you do the work and here's some more flea medicine, come back when it happens again.... We have 3 cats and an 8 month old at the house. We don't have time to police the litter box waiting for her to go. That's why we specifically requested the fecal float to be performed by the vet. So we called Crossroads, down the road, and they were confused as to why a vet wouldn't do a fecal float. Needless to say, we're heading there in the morning to get it taken care of and get the potty grooming finished correctly for a long hair cat. I do not recommend bringing your pets here, specifically a cat, if you want any type of service other than a generic exam and flea medicine. 🙄

I carried my Corgi in last Friday. He was very sick and couldn’t keep anything down. Dr. Bean was very concerned and thorough in his assessment and they kept him over the weekend. Dr. Bean himself called me Saturday with an update. He also called me Monday morning and Monday around lunchtime. I couldn’t have wished for a more carrying and compassionate Veterinarian than Dr. Bean. My little fellow is on the mend and doing much better. I recommend Dr. Bean and Branchville Veterinary to anyone!

Update as of 05-25. This is the 2nd time our dog has been left there and nothing was done. There was no charge for it but she was supposedly going to drink and them get a urine sample and they said they couldn’t get one but she pee’d a lot when she got home. She wasn’t given the medicine they prescribed so I’m sure she felt muserable while she was there and she didn’t have any food. Along with that a Veterinarian can give an opinion about something the owners do and make you feel like crap and even though your own Dr is fine with it for now, (smoking) he has no idea the damage he just did to OUR self esteem and from previous experience I know this man doesn’t care about the damage he does to the humans! Do better Branchville! Prior to May 2025 had 4 stars Best animal clinic ever ❤️. Have gone there for years and even though it’s a 30 minute drive it is worth it! Everyone is so nice and all the vets are wonderful ❤️. So glad they were recommended to me years ago! I love them all!

Branchville always takes such good care of our critters, from dogs to cats to goats! We love how we know we can do a walk-in apt, and we know they are always doing their best for our babies.

Hands down the best vet I've ever been to! My piglet was on death's doorstep when I brought him here. Dr. Wood took such great care of him and saved his life when no other vet would take him. The bill was way less than I expected as well. Their prices are extremely reasonable.
