How to Save Money at Whitworth Animal Clinic Inc

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

TRUTH SPEAKS

My Westie is terrified of the vet because of bad past vet service. I took my baby boy here and he did not tremble or cry. The staff was young and energetic, they got down on the floor to play with him! This place seems like it will be a positive experience all around. Visited the doctor with ear issues, was given easy holistic options, fixed my baby right up. Follow-ups are also free. We have FINALLY found the exceptional place to take our fur babies. I'm so happy I could cry.

Great service, got me in last minute. (7 months ago) Recent visit May 2021: took my pups in for shots, wellness check, and nail trimming. The staff from front desk to the Dr. treated us wonderfully. The staff is really great about printing out price estimates for various services as I’ve been to other local vets and walked with receipts ranging from $300-$500 a visit. Thankfully the pups are healthy. I didn’t realize how traumatizing nail trimming can be for a frenchie, he’s already screaming bloody murder before the clippers actually touch him. No other place in town can actually get those nails trimmed, it takes 3 staff to manage him during the process. I have found the service is great and prices are reasonable.

They saved my dogs life when no other vet would even attempt it!!!! He was attacked by another dog, and it was pretty grim. He was really messed up. I took my dog to 3 other vets before bringing him here. Every other vet said he needed to be put down, and would have no quality of life if they tried to save him. I refused to believe this and just kept going to different vets until i found one willing to try to save him, which was this office. They were willing to try when nobody else would. And they saved his life. This was about 8 or so~ years ago and my dog is still alive and still living his best yorkie life! He has no long term problems from this incident either. His quality of life is totally normal. Hes a happy, healthy lil peanut :) and to think if we had listened to the other vets, we wouldn't have him anymore. Thank you guys so much. Our dogs are family, and you guys in this office became heroes to my family that day. Cannot thank you guys enough.

We are from out of town and needed a vet fast for our fur baby (14 yrs old). He is having major joint and muscle issues, they were real fast on getting us in and working the issue. Thank you

My dog was having some stomach issues, I called and was able to have him seen that day. I had a friend go and drop him off since I had already left for work that morning. The staff called to tell me he was ready and I told them as soon as I got off I would come and get him. I do not get another call until 4:50 to ask if I was planning to pick him up because they closed at 5. I informed the woman I was coming right away but I would be late because I was under the impression they closed at 6 (per their door and website). When I was three minutes from the building I got another call saying they were closing and I could pick him up at 7AM I begged them to just wait a couple of minutes I was only three minutes away to which they told me no. I sat in the parking lot for about 5-10 minutes in disbelief when another car pulls in the parking lot and goes around back an comes back with a dog, I asked if she worked there and she said no she was just a family friend but she also thought they closed at 6 so they put her dog in the back so she could pick her up later. So due to the staff's poor communication my already anxious dog had to spend the night in an environment he is unfamiliar with without my consent. I would not return here under any circumstances.
