Great Coverage, Especially for Multiple Dogs

Very happy with my MetLife Pet Insurance coverage. It is great that we can cover both dogs with a single plan that means we reach the deductible more quickly and can make the most of the benefits. I haven't had any issues with claims being denied even though one dog had to have some pretty serious surgery. Claim processing has been a bit slower than they said it would be, but overall, I've been pleased with their service.

Very Poor Company

MetLife denied my claim for vet recommended testing costing $2488 for my new rescue dog. MetLife sent me a short note saying my dog's issue was pre-existing based on notes prior to my taking in the rescue. I had received no information on the dog, purchased MetLife before my first vet visit but they found information from the previous owner's vet (that I did not have when I purchased the insurance) and refused my claim.

Will deny expensive claims

I rescued another dog in 2024. Received no information so purchased MetLife Pet Insurance before any vet visits. Visits went to my deductible. My vet received vet notes from prior owner and I submitted everything. My vet recommended tests for an issue that cost $2488. MetLife let me pay down on my deductible but when this would go into reimbursement, MetLife denied the claim saying "pre-existing". They can, and will, claim anything expensive as pre-existing in order to not pay out.

Fantastic

This has been the best purchase as a pet owner I could have made. The first year it covered itself. My dog is 2 and recently had a bad experience. The bill was an unexpected $1700. Right after Christmas AND a needing a new oven. 😂. MetLife pays fast! Typically within 7 days. Their Customer Service is amazing and our fur babies have great care. I will always choose my pet over, well pretty much everything, but makes the stress less, especially when worrying about their care, that I can still play the mortgage after an unexpected vet bill!

This is a scam

I submitted my puppy's emergency vet claim on December 8, 2024, and since then, I have contacted MetLife daily, only to receive inconsistent answers regarding the status and processing time of my claim. Their app and website misleadingly state that processing takes 5 to 10 days, but it's clear that this is far from the truth, as I have received no updates after that period. My dog had a follow-up appointment and is due for another one, but I cannot afford this additional cost while MetLife holds $2,200 of my emergency funds. This situation is unacceptable, and I am deeply frustrated with what appears to be a scam. I am concerned that when they finally review my claim—likely in six months—they will deny it altogether. I expected better from this insurance, especially since I pay my premium automatically through my employer. At this point, my only option is to wait the official 30 days and then escalate this matter to the State of Michigan and pursue legal action if necessary.

MetLife Claims experience

Nothing but the best. Saw reviews where folks claimed they waited forever. Not so in our case. Always paid within 1-2 day of electronic submission of claim. We have carried pet insurance for many years. Had good experience with other carriers, but Nationwide our previous carrier has cut back on coverage and gone way up in price. So far, more than satisfied with MetLife. Other than asking for SOAP notes we don't have to bother our vet with claim forms. Was surprised to see that some items not covered by other insurers are covered by MetLife.

Claims take so LONG

I'm very frustrated with Met Life Pet Ins. b/c their claims process is NOT 5 to 10 business days as they like to advertise. This is deceiving and simply a lie. I submitted a claim for my dog on 11/26/24 and so far, crickets. I sent an email last week for an update, and still, no reply. I will tell you that my claims have been paid BUT, it's simply a painfully slow waiting game. Are they short-staffed? is this why the claims process takes seemingly forever?? Customer service needs to improve: respond to our emails, have a better chat set up. Your chat box is almost always down! You guys are a multi million dollar company...why the lame chat, the lack of communication, the leaving-us-clients-hanging? It's really a disservice and I'm just plain fed up.

They try everything not to pay you

My dog had. Diarrhea when I first got him because I was changing his food and they now called the chronic so anytime he has diarrhea. They have a get out of jail card for free and don’t have to pay the claim They’re calling a pre-existing. Really? You submit a claim now they want soap notes. I have had Pet insurance with everyone of my pets for the past 20 years I have never had to go hunting for notes from the vet. They say they’re going to pay within five or 10 business days but it’s more like two or three months if they pay you. They want to try anything they can not to pay claim even though it’s clearly noted that the claimant should be paid. It’s something that’s covered.
