How to Save Money at Lance Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

While I cannot speak to Lance’s ability as an animal doctor, he seems to be an amazing human being. Our family vehicle broke down on our way home from a vacation. We were waiting for the tow truck in massive heat near the clinic…..with our dogs…..when Lance stopped. He offered to help, but the truck was on way. He then offered to board our dogs free of charge if the repairs took more than a day. If he treats strangers like this, I can only imagine how well he treats those he does know. Thank you, Lance

My cat and I went here for a long time~ 10 years. Due to having to drive an hour to get here, I decided to take her somewhere else. We always did our annual checks with our last here in August 2021. When I brought her somewhere new due to bladder problems, she turned out to have bladder stones. She’s had chronic calcium bladder stones since age 5, and at the August checkup, I was told they magically went away when I wanted to be proactive and get them removed since they have always existed. Five months later, urine/bladder problems develop and the new vet says she still has calcium stones which she does have and are causing problems. Out of frustration since these type of stones do not dissolve and despite Lance’s false/inaccurate diagnosis, I wanted to give her the best quality of life and have them removed for good. After doing work up for surgery, she was found to be anemic. Once shock finally settled and the vet fully reviewed records, they said the anemia/blood anomalies had been noticed on prior records from Lance and should had been investigated further at that time. I was never even notified at any point of anemia in my cat. Talk about sickening to the stomach. Turns out it was too late for my poor girl. After $7K of diagnostic tests and blood transfusions, she passed in May 2022 due to what we assume cancer and heart failure (induced from the steroids used to try to cure her anemia). It’s taken me a while to leave a post on this place. She was the sweetest baby any cat owner could want. Every time I see the hospitals name, it saddens me so. When her lab work was off, it was during the years of COVID when they allowed no one in and I was never notified of anything wrong. What they claim and actually did behind those closed doors, I will never know. All I know is my sweet girl was hardly 12 and I would have done anything to give her more time if only offered the chance. Lance robbed me of this. Therefore, this is my review of this place. Great place for the perfectly healthy cat but terrible for the cat that may have off lab work and need further investigation. I will never go back here and have spread the word not to. I would give infinite stars if I could, 5 just doesn't cut it. I recommend them to anyone and everyone. I was beyond impressed by the care I received. My dog unfortunately passed away this wee due to a tragic accident, I decided to have him cremated and spent the day researching and calling around for information on what was offered. I chose Lance Animal Hospital because it was significantly less than other price estimates I had received. When I arrived they were so caring and sincere, several of the ladies there came out to express their condolences which meant a lot to me. I asked if i could have a paw print and nose print done and expected to be charged extra but they gave them to me free of charge. His ashes were ready the next day, they came in a urn with a sweet message on the lid, they put a lock of his hair in a cute little jar and included the poem about rainbow bridge in the bag. They defiantly go above and beyond to help ease some of the pain that comes with losing your best friend. I can not express my gratitude, they truly made a huge impact. Thank you so much.

Along with being current on best practices and very easy with which to work, Lance doctors and staff offer the best in integrated medicine at an affordable price. It doesn't get much better than that for those of us on tight budgets with working dogs. My dog will work years past her contemporaries thanks to Lance's care. It's a great partnership.
