How to Save Money at Gifts of Peace Home Pet Euthanasia

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It has been over two years since we said goodbye to our beloved Cassiopeia. It is tough to revisit that time, but I want to thank Dr. Robin and offer my sincere recommendation. From the day we adopted her as an energetic pup, we always strived to give Cassie the best life we could. When it became clear we could not save her from suffering from cancer in her spine, we reached out to Gifts of Peace. Dr. Robin and her assistant were so kind and gracious. I would not choose another way to end the life of our sweet creature who loved us so fully and unconditionally. To surrender her to a gentle drift into the beyond, in the peace of her own home by a compassionate and loving professional was the final best gift we could give Cassie. I know that providing this end-of-life care must be so difficult, and I am grateful to Dr. Robin and all those who offer it with such grace.

If you are reading this, I send all my love to you during this difficult time. My sweet baby kitty, Rambo, had been with me almost my entire adult life until she became very ill and it was revealed she had cancer. After a few weeks of trying to nurse her back to health from sepsis, her little body had had enough and she was telling us it was time. We reached out to Gifts of Peace and they were able to schedule a visit for the day and time that we felt we, and she, would be ready to part ways. Dr. Robin arrived on time, walked over to Rambo to give her love and check her condition. She then kindly explained to us the process we were about to go through. Everything felt very smooth and thoughtful - something that went a very long way during such a gut wrenching event. She asked if we wanted a lock of her fur and proceeded to make sure she got a little bit of each of her many colors in a way that didn’t leave any bald spots. Our dog was excited to have a guest over and she stayed with him so we could have our time with Ram. She gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye while she was sedated and after she had passed. Rambo was gently taken to the pet mortuary wrapped in a soft blanket in a sweet little basket. Dr. Robin informed us she will be riding in the front seat with her and I have no doubt that she likely talked to her on the way as well. She just seems like that kind of soul. Today we received a condolence card from our veterinarian. The thought of having to inform them was on my mind a few days before, but it’s now something I don’t have to worry about because Gifts of Peace let them know for us. Everyone from the person who took our call to the doctor that came were very sweet and empathetic. Their pricing was more than fair compared to others I had come across, especially since they were close to us. This was a relief after the thousands we spent in vet bills leading up to this. I highly recommend Gifts of Peace to guide your baby to the next world.

Dr. Robin was a delight. Truly a ray of light, hope and calm in this, pretty awful and traumatic time as we said goodbye to my little guy. After explaining the process thoroughly, she gave us all the time we needed to work through our grief and say good byes. There was no pressure, no judgement, just love and compassion. It was awful, but at the same time calming and ultimately so, so beautiful and peaceful. Thank you. Thank you also to the ladies who answered my calls. Voices on the other end f the phone who knew who I was after my initial contact. I was desperate, I needed to move the appointment earlier than planned. They were so wonderful. So caring and so patient as I sobbed my heart out on the other end of the phone. I forgot your names, but I truly thank you for your compassion and patience.

Thank you Gifts of Peace for being so caring and sensitive. During the worst time you made things as good as they could be. Dr. Robin helped us through the difficult task of guiding our beloved dog across the rainbow bridge. We are so thankful for the way it was handled.

Sending you lots of love if you're reading this and having to make this really hard decision. I had to say goodbye to my childhood dog today, one of the hardest things I've had to do up till now and Dr. Robin made the whole experience very easy and also made it one of the most beautiful end of life experiences ever. She came at the time we had scheduled, was very sweet to me and my family and to my other dog who was also present. She explained the whole process and answered any questions we had, she explained everything she was doing step by step and also kept conversation with all us of throughout it all. Most of all, she treated my dog with such care and gentleness, he was so calm throughout it all, I know he wasn't in any pain or discomfort because of how gentle she was with him. I was able to hold him in my arms while he passed which was very important to me, and she provided me with a nice fluffy blanket to hold him with. She didn't rush us at all and let us spend as much time as we needed with him alone. She even cut some locks of his fur and put them in a little pouch for me to keep. There was no judgement at all for how we expressed our grief. She brought out a basket to put him in after he passed and he looked like a little puppy sleeping in it. I would 100% recommend Dr. Robin and Gifts of Peace for end of life care for your pet. I'm forever grateful for my experience, and a part of me feels at peace knowing how my pupper spent his last moments.
