How to Save Money at Camino Seco Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve been going her for our 13 year old chihuahua Daisy since they saved her life over a year ago. She needed an emergency surgery for pyrometra and they took her in on a Friday afternoon and saved her life we would’ve lost out little girl. At the emergency vet nearby it would’ve been an 8 hour wait in our car in July. Daisy and Mary are best friends now. Mary is always so kind and helpful and answers all questions, Dr Kiesel is very knowledgeable. We highly recommend Camino Seco Pet Clinic.

I've had great experiences here. Picked up a rescue kitten and visited to have her fixed. Excellent treatment and animal health knowledge. Recently had a Labrador that required surgery (tumors removed) and attempted visiting a vet closer to our home and was quoted nearly $1000 - didn't have that in the budget so visited here and they were able to help and performed same surgery for around $400. Doctor and vet techs were great the whole time and excellent customer service. These folks love animals and you see it in the care they provide to pets.

We are very happy with Camino Seco Pet Clinic. We just adopted a puppy a few days ago. We called around as we are in the search for a new Vet for our other pets as well. We wanted to have a well check since the pup came from a rescue without any history. When we called here, the actual doctor answered the phone and gave us great advice and tips. He even said we could wait a bit if we wanted as the pup was able to receive vaccines now or in a couple months without any risk. We decided to have the well check completed for piece of mind, had our pup micro chipped and started his vaccines. Dr. Ed is very thorough! He answers all of your questions and concerns and even puts it all in writing for you so you can refer to it later. The clinic is clean, the staff and doctor are personable, accessible, friendly and knowledgeable. We feel confident in taking our pup back for his follow up care! If you want care for your pets without trying to up sell and force things on you, but want what is best for the pet, this is your Vet! Overall great experience.

I cannot over emphasize how much Confidence I have in Dr K and Mary. I’ve been going here for 7 years and Dr helped me with a senior dog and now my 2 large dogs. Due to circumstances beyond my control I was between homes for 2 months and boarded my 2 dogs. I travel a lot and drive crosstown to board with Camino Seco Pet clinic now that I moved from being near them. This office cares about animals. Don’t expect to be rushed through a examination. Dr loves to get to know his patients. After the fantastic care given, the rates are very very reasonable and Dr does not promote unnecessary food, procedures or meds. So, thank you Dr K and Mary ! Just don’t retire anytime soon :)

Called Monday morning 7/19 and spoke with a very nice receptionist that made an appointment for me and my dog that following Thursday. I believe my pup got kennel cough from her groomer, and the receptionist was very nice to set up an appointment so soon! BUT… I was informed I would be receiving an email soon with a form that needs to be filled out before the appointment to confirm my information that I never received. The day before my appointment I called the clinic to confirm my email to ensure I could receive the form and fill it out prior to the appointment. A man answered the phone, not giving his name but I was able to deduct it was likely the vet Dr.Ed, and while trying to explain that I haven’t received the email he interrupted me and said I would receive it later this evening. He DID NOT ask to confirm my email, he DID NOT ask for my information to look up dog, he DID NOT ask me when I set up my appointment. He did nothing to help me. He interrupted me and gave me a pointless answer that didn’t help or answer my question. I asked again, “I made this appointment two days ago, and I was told I’d be receiving the email shortly, so I just wanted to confirm.” He replied with attitude, “Well, we don’t send them out until the day of your appointment.” So he changed his story, first he said I was probably going to receive it “tonight”, and now I guess I’ll be seeing it “the day of the exam”. Immediately I knew this was not the type of vet I want to take my puppy to, so I started calling around to other vets in my area to make an appointment elsewhere. I also looked on google to check the reviews to see if this was a one time occurrence, but NOPE! Multiple reviews specifically name Dr.Ed for being unprofessional and rude. A previous review actually states that they had troubles and didn’t receive the email either, but Dr. Ed refused to work with them or check to see that the email was not received. Obviously this is a repeated issue for this vet, and I didn’t appreciate the attitude. I called back within 20 minutes after making a different appointment and canceled. Same man answered the phone, didn’t ask why I was canceling, but I’m glad I didn’t take my puppy here. My family will definitely not bring our other animals either. No one wants their best friend to be treated negatively and that was definitely the vibe I got from this vet. Office staff - very friendly, I probably would have kept the appointment if I worked with them again to resolve my issue. Now that I’ve seen what the vet is like, I don’t want that attitude around my puppy. Dr. Ed - should have just listened, been understanding, and tried to actually help instead.
