How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Milan

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Been coming here for 30+ years. Dr Agee was always great. Now that he’s retired the new Doctor seemed nice, can’t remember her name. Jennifer at the front desk has zero people skills and obviously hates her job. Everyone else are teenage girls with zero people or communication skills nor common sense. The asked what they’ve been told to ask and unless you answer with yes or no or lord forbid you ask them a question they will have a deer in headlights looks like their pea brain short circuited. Then talk hateful to you because they made themselves look like a fool. Since Agee’s time this place’s business practice has went to hell. Ridiculously high even for the most basic services. We had a great long run but will never be back. The ladies at Lambert’s in Milan are awesome, nice and so much more affordable. Zero stars if I could.

Always easy to work with and very honest. We recently came across a cat in Kentucky just sitting in the middle of the road. It was very sick and being the animal lovers we are we picked it up. They were able to get us in the same day and check him out. Unfortunately the cat ended up being FIV positive and very sick. They were honest with us about the best choice for the cat and didn’t try to sell us a bunch of tests for the same end result. We greatly appreciate that. We bring all of our animals to them for all there veterinarian needs. Also the cost for the services are very reasonable with any and all charges being fully discussed before service.

The rude lady at the front desk needs a class in customer service!!! A family member of mine came in with a puppy she rescued. She came in to ask a question about the puppy and was met with rudeness from the older front desk worker. She asked if she could speak with a doctor or assistant to see if they could give her some insight on his breed. The older front desk worker rudely told her that it was mixed with some of everything and then proceeded to tell her that she would need an appointment and they weren't seeing anyone else today! They left and will not be back due to the rudeness!

The front desk woman was only rude to my sister even though my sister was being very nice. She had medium dirty blonde hair with glasses and a green shirt. My sister said she had an appointment and the older lady said go sit down it will be a minute. ( in a rude manner) so my sister said “yes ma’am” and sat down. The lady started asking questions about my sister. Her tone was uncalled for and hateful for some reason. Every one after us she was nice too. The vet was nice and informative. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING TO LAMBERT ANIMAL CLINIC THEY ARE NICE.

the older lady working the front desk has the worst attitude. she was rude to me when i called, worried about my dog. she was rude this morning when i brought my dog in. i picked my dog up this afternoon she was super friendly to the man in front of me, then got to me and was absolutely hateful. very uncalled for tone. i'm sure the vet & techs did great with my dog but unfortunately the one i communicated with was awful.
