How to Save Money at PetVax Complete Care Centers - Bartlett

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wellness exam was like 1 minute long and consisted of weighing her and listening to her breathing. Then 2 lady’s walked in and gave my cat 3 vaccines without asking or explaining anything prior. The prices of the vaccines were good tho. $25 wellness exam turns to about 150 in 3 minutes. All the employees were very nice

I was very pleased with my experience at petvax. I was able to get a same day appointment. My dog needed multiple shots and tests. So many I thought my dog would be overwhelmed. In what seemed under a minute he had all his shots, blood drawn, skin test and worm test. He never even reacted. The Doctor was great. Definitely going to be my regular vet.

We recently had to make the heartbreaking choice for euthanasia for our oldest dog. After being given a couple of referrals by people with recent experiences, we chose this location over our regular vet, as we did not want to have a reminder every time we visit our routine vet clinic. Our experience was nothing like the experiences we were told about. We were charged an $82 “quality of life consultation” charge on top of the expected fees, when no such consultation occurred. No kind words, no condolences, nothing except the medications and 10 minutes with our dog. This was not the experience others have had, so I’m unsure what the disconnect was. My son is devastated his childhood dog went this way, and I feel so guilty for believing this was a place that would help us let him go with dignity and care. I’m not sure what kind of folks look at a little boy losing his dog and handle it this way. I should have gone with Lap of Love or taken him to our regular vet. I am sick over it, and hope others can use this information to make a different choice.

When I arrived I was unaware that Petvax was like a regular vet. I thought I was at an emergency care facility. With this being no fault PetVax. I simply did not read the online information just assuming it was a place for pet emergency. I called the numberon the door and told them what was going on with my female retriever and the were kind enough to go ahead and see us. The whole staff was very caring and professional. They were able to find out exactly what was wrong with my pet. Unfortunately my pet needed surgery asap. Although I could not affordto have the surgery done there but I know they would have done an excellent job. Even though I could not pay for them to do the surgery I had to go somewhere else. They were so kind about it and offered to email me the xrays and blood work that they had done so that the place that did the surgery would have that information before surgeryand the would nit have to repeat those test. Not only was so impressed with of how they all got right in there and diagnosed her quickly and then to send me the test results that they had preformed for a facility that is not affiliated at all with PetVax and cared enough about us to see that my Pet Molly would have a chance to survive even though they were not doing the surgery. I'm so thankful that I mistakenly went to PetVax. They all were awesome!!!
