How to Save Money at Mountain View Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

These are some of the kindest and most caring people I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. My dog is almost 16 and was not eating, drinking water, and could barely walk without falling over. I was heartbroken because she's my baby and from calling other unnamed vets over the phone they had basically told me it sounds like she's about to pass away. Brought her to mountain view the next day, they got me in within an hour and gave her some steroids shots and a prescription to take home. They never once told me I needed to pay ridiculous costs or made me feel like I was being pressured. Flash forward 3 days and my dog is acting like a puppy again. Eating again, drinking again, and in so much less pain than she was. So so thankful for the entire staff. I would and have recommended them to everyone I know. Thank you.

I’m very torn with this review. With my dog, a 13 yr old who still acted like a puppy, we took here and they were amazing with us. We found out devastating news about fluid around his heart that became the reason for the end of his adventure and they were incredibly kind. Now expecting the same compassion with my older cat who had thyroid issues, I brought her here. I was very scared about what the verdict would be especially so soon after losing our lucky. The lady veterinarian walked in and as I’m talking, she interrupted to ask if I brought her in to put her down. When I say I was actually speechless as I was looking for help, not death, I couldn’t come up with anything to say. I ended up leaving there and waiting another week to go to pinnacle in Clemson, which I regret every day as who knows if they could have changed the outcome. They were very compassionate and explained why she was showing end of life signs and she was hurting. So again I had to make this decision within just a month. I had such anxiety every time I had to drive by Mountain View veterinary… I don’t wish that pain on anyone else. I’m not sure why this lady thought her tone or attitude was called for but it took me a year to write this because I’d hoped my experience was a once off. Since we moved here, their rating has dropped from 4.6 to 4.1… we’ve only been here a year and a half maybe. I don’t think I’d risk this place with anyone who cares for their babies. Thanks for reading.

I took my cat Stumpy, a tiny 11 year old three legged beauty I've owned her entire life to see Dr. Hutchinson two weeks ago because her chronic nasal congestion was worsening to the point that the poor cat was in distress. They told me to come in as soon as was convenient for me. They were very compassionate and efficient. Dr. Hutchinson gave us an oral antibiotic, and within 5 days, Stumpy was breathing freely with no congestion at all ! She looks like her younger self, purring, running around and playing, instead of lying around all day struggling to get air in. MT. VIEW VETERINARY is AWESOME

I was told about Moutain View by a worker at a local pet store a few years ago. She highly recommended them. She was right. The Doctor and the staff have been nothing but polite and understanding and caring through the hardships. I have nothing but praise for Moutain View! Thank you Moutain View! Ted Watkins

I cannot say enough good things about Mountain View Veterinary Services. Dr Hutchinson and staff are all great care providers. They are friendly, professional, and compassionate. We moved to the area 3 years ago and thought we would never find another place like our Vet in Charleston. What a surprise, we found a better place. They knew just the right way to treat our 14 year old, set in his ways, stubborn dog. They even afffectionally nicknamed him “The Old Man”. Our dog recently passed away at 17 years of age. They were very compassionate and provided wonderful care all along the way. You will not find a better team to care for your pets!!
