How to Save Money at Rogue Valley Veterinary Emergency

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had as pleasant an experience as possible today during my visit to RVVE. I brought my dog, Spike, in after he had sustained a bite on his back from another dog. Upon arrival, we were requested to complete a form, which we had received via text message prior to our visit in order to expedite the intake process. We were seen promptly. Spike and I were both quite stressed and anxious upon our arrival due to the circumstances; however, Dr. Lewis and his staff alleviated our concerns with their professionalism and kindness. Dr. Lewis ensured that he explained each step of the process and the treatment plan for my dog. He also provided us with an estimate of the treatment costs without adding any unnecessary charges. The entire staff exhibited great compassion, and we are thankful to have this new practice in our valley. We wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Lewis and his staff for any emergency veterinary needs.

My dog Sofie has inoperable cancer, she is my very best friend. The compassion Dr Lewis shows his patients is heart warming. Veterinary medicine is treating more than just the patient sometimes, some times it means assisting a grieving pet parent at a very critical time in their lives. Losing her will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I thank God for the love and compassion we have been shown at Rogue Emergency Vet. Sofie and I are forever grateful for your service.

Dr. Sam was there for me when my 18y/o kitten was at end of life. He, and his whole office provided compassion for me on what feels like the worst day of my life as well as care and dignity for the true last day of my fur baby. It's a hard job I'm sure and they do it best there. His competition wouldn't get us in within a timely manner and would have charged an arm and a leg. Will be recommending them whenever someone has an animal emergency

Rogue Valley Veterinary Emergency With an emergency over the weekend, we got to meet Dr. Lewis at the new pet ER hospital in Medford and he was absolutely awesome! He got us through til I could get my girl to her primary veterinarian yesterday! I highly recommend this place, Dr. Lewis sat on the ground with my dog, my mom, and myself, he got on her level, and with my girl going through as much as she has at a vet clinic she gets a bit of anxiety when in these places, so she really needed that ❤️ When my dog arrived, the staff grabbed a gurny and was very eager to help get my dog out of a huge truck, (even though not needed like I thought), they were right there waiting to help any way they could. Dr. Lewis explained everything very clearly, and was not concerned about money as soon as I walked in, when I came in crying with my dog who's incision came open, I had already paid over 2,000$ in a week for her care to her primary veterinarian. He went with the cheapest but effective option which included their exam fee, which all things considered, was affordable. His assistants were also very caring, helpful, and compassionate!!! Also getting to be with my dog the entire time was a plus for us both, she doesn't do well away from me, she is my emotional support animal, fur baby, and best friend ❤️ Thank you to everyone who helped my girl this weekend! You all are life savers!!!

Had to take our cat in on a Saturday morning for kidney issues. The facility is clean and well maintained and designed to facilitate pet guardian inclusion in the diagnosis and treatment process. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and compassionate. Even when the office got busy later in the morning, they did a great job managing all the patients (and their guardians). Dr. Lewis was spent a significant amount of time with me explaining test results and treatment options in a way that was understandable and helpful. Nobody wants to spend their evening or weekend at the vet but if you have to, I highly recommend RVVE. I would definitely take my beloved pet back here if needed.
