How to Save Money at Peak Paws Advanced Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have two pups that go here for rehab and physical therapy. The team has been so helpful throughout all of the challenges. Their gym and water treadmill sessions are something both of them look forward to. Highly recommended. Their new facility is really nice and has some waiting areas and new equipment.

I am an accredited Dog Behavior Professional. I have been serving the veterinary industry for 16 years. I have been in and out of HUNDREDS of hospitals. The two most incredible personal experiences I have ever had were with Dr. Shults with Peak Paws Advanced Veterinary Hospital. I truly almost came to tears watching Dr. Shults give my last dog, Nancy, an exam and solution that 100% extended her life in Quantity and Quality. I am now with my current dog and he's experiencing some hip issues. AGAIN, watching Dr. Shults in action provide such a thorough exam with amazing compassion, exuberance and expertise almost brought me to tears. Like you, my dog is my best friend and as much a part of our family as our human kids. Knowing they are cared for on the same level as if I went to the hospital alleviates a lot of STRESS! You need to see this facility for yourself. If you're in the Triangle area, make the time to go see the facility, accidents rarely happen during business hours. I can't say enough good things. They need an option on Google for at least 3,000 stars. 5 is not enough. I highly recommend Dr. Shults and her team. My German shepherd experienced an injury last year and they helped me get him back to being able to compete and is still gaining muscle. He loves going to see them and we’ve had nothing but great experiences. He enjoys getting to do underwater treadmill and getting his monthly adjustments from Dr. Shults!

While peak paws is new, the team and the doctor that my dogs see, are not. I have been seeing Dr. Schultz for I believe about four years now. I have sport dogs, and I truly do not trust any other Rehab vet in the area other than Dr. Schultz herself. I drive an hour away for my dogs to have their treatments for anything they might need and we go every other week to have massage, treadmill, gym, chiropractic, and laser. We have recheck every six months to maintain Rehab progress and again if there is something that I know is off about my dogs, but I cannot tell what it is, Dr. Schultz will find it. The team there is fantastic, and my dogs are not the most easiest going. I have also visited the ER department unfortunately but again, the quality of care is amazing. A different ER vet has not given the most accurate care before so I will again drive an hour out just for the staff here.

We had to bring our 14 year old cat Indy in a few weeks ago when she suddenly became ill. From the time I called in to ask about her being seen, through the entire time she was hospitalized, the staff was caring, attentive and made me feel I was leaving her in the best possible care. Although we didn't have the outcome we hope for (she was just too ill) I feel the staff did everything they could do for her. This was top of the line treatment and honestly, a lot better staffed and equipped than a lot of people hospitals! They were compassionate when letting us spend time with her to say our goodbyes and handled her cremation very quickly. I would not hesitate to use their services again and really wish this was also a standard vet practice rather than just emergency because I would 100% bring all of my pets here.
