How to Save Money at Chase Farm Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve been going to Chase Farm with our cat, Willow, for over a year now and have had nothing but wonderful interactions with the care team there. We’ve primarily seen Drs Picard and Thompson, who are very kind and caring. In instances where we’ve had to be referred out to an emergency clinic, they called around to make sure we would be going to a place with the right doctors and equipment (one weekend Willow ate something and we needed to get her emergency surgery). Even when Willow was seen elsewhere, I know I can expect a call from Chase the morning after to go over all that was done and have it explained in ways I can understand. I greatly appreciate all that they do and would 100% recommend this clinic to everyone.

I arrived at my appt at exactly 4:50pm with my 2 dogs ( an American Bully and a French Bulldog). My appt was for 4:55pm. It took a long time to check us in because the male employee checking clients in was helping an elderly couple. He was having a difficult time gathering the correct dog food for this particular elderly couple. Long story short. I check in both my dogs. ( mind you my husband had to come with me because 2 dogs can be a handful). We waited for about 2 minutes before being called into an exam room. The tech took down some information and then proceeded to leave and say the vet would be in shortly. After waiting about 20 minutes the tech comes in and says “I’m sorry because you were late for your appt, the doctor is going to euthanize a pet and then you will get seen”. Although I feel terrible for the people putting down their dog I proceeded to explain I was not late, it was the check in process. We were checked in late because the male employee was helping an elderly couple. I even told her the entire conversation. I also explained it took a while for me to get this appt because I had 2 dogs and my husband had to be home to help me. I told her I wanted to speak to the vet before she went and saw another client. I waited an additional 15 minutes in the room. It is now 5:40 and my appt was for 4:55pm. I was so angry I got up and left.!!

You won’t find a better vet practice anywhere. They are all wonderful at Chase, but Dr Comstock is the most knowledgeable, kind, and loving veterinarian on the planet. I trust them wholeheartedly with the care of my babies, they truly are the best!

I went in to chase farm today thinking I was going to have to put down our cat. Thankfully the amazing vet at chase farm said he could save our cat. I cannot put into words how thankful I am knowing our cat is going to be saved. I've grown up going to chase farm with other pets and they always received amazing care. So it's a great feeling knowing they care still. Thank you to everyone at chase farm.

We followed Dr. Lord here from his previous practice and he did not disappoint! He’s thorough, knowledgeable, and honest. If he doesn’t think you need a test, he’s not going to recommend it and wrack up your bill. He really listens to you, taking your concerns and description of your pets behavior into consideration with his evaluation. Moreover, he explains what to look out for in the future. You leave the office feeling confident that your pet is as healthy and well cared for as can be. While many vets can seem dismissive of your questions, doctor Lord ensures you understand. He explains your pet’s anatomy, the disease, the medicine. Moreover, he catches things that other vets miss. My parent’s cat had been to multiple ER vets without proper diagnosis. Doctor Lord found the issue in under ten minutes. Give that man a raise!! I also found Chase Farms practice to be well run. The waiting room has never been overwhelmed. The staff are organized and efficient.
