How to Save Money at Ohana Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog usually goes to Ohana on telephone but they were booked up and she needed some more immediate care. Everyone at this urgent care location is just as amazing and kind as at the original. Throughout my life I’ve visited a lot of different vet clinics and Ohana (both locations I’ve been to now) has always been, by far, the best experiences.

Very friendly, expert vet care and literally 60% of what another urgent care quoted for one of our dogs. Their follow up is prompt & thorough and if we lived closer, we'd transfer to them for our primary vet relationship

We were visiting family. In Oxnard Shores and our dog hurt her leg and would walk on it. We were able to get an appointment with Dr. Cassidy. She is great and compassionate. What a blessing to have a compassionate urgently care. Thanks you O’Hana.

It was easy to find if you know where you’re going. It is across from the hospital on Loma Vista. The staff was very kind and helpful. There are multiple entry doors, but how they operate now, they use the front door. We got there about 20 minutes before their lunch break and they confirmed that the doctor was still in available and they got us in right away. Because they are so new, there was no wait. When we came back to pick up our dog, somebody had an appointment so I guess you can make appointments, even though it is urgent care. The intake staff was very kind, and the doctor was readily available, kind, smart, patient and informative. She was a bit cautious and safe with her recommendations (we used to work with animals), which I’d rather have than carefree and reckless lol. Our dog gotten bit playing with another dog and probably needed a couple staples, but she opted to sedate her and give her stitches instead. It did no harm and the job was done well. I would go back if I had to go to an urgent care facility and definitely recommend them to others. The pricing was also quite fair in my opinion.

Love Dr Amy!! Our dog woke up with an eye problem and Ohana got us in within hours of my call to see Dr Amy. Kimberly greeted us right away and took us back to a room immediately. We had to wait about 25 minutes for the doctor, but Kimberly kept us updated and informed as to the wait. Dr Amy was so good with our dog. Sierra had an ulcerated cornea so Dr Amy got her started on antibiotic drops and we are hoping it will heal well. Our dog is 17 years old and Dr Amy treated her like she was a pup. It was a great vet experience and the price for the services rendered was very reasonable. They also let you know the costs of everything before they do it so you know right where you are financially. A+++++
