Great coverage and customer service

Chose HP to cover our little rescue mutt, as I found the best reviews and ratings. Sadly, she had hip dysplasia @6 months, so that was an out-of-pocket $$$; but well worth it to see the little gal use all 4 legs again. Last year she was hit, most likely by a motorbike, as she only had superficial cuts and thankfully nothing broken and no internal damage. Still close to $1,500 for emergency vet, sutures, overnight stay. Got a check for nearly $1,100 within a couple of weeks. Hopefully the gal has at least another 10 years in her, so we won't have to agonize over whether we can afford to care for her should she have some senior health issues.

Fast

My girl has Lymphoma, which requires weekly treatments over months. I take a picture of the claim form and the invoice, send it to Embrace and I get paid before the next treatment. I do wish they didn’t have a top stop, tho. Scares me when dealing with an expensive disease like cancer. I chose 80% coverage and $14,000 top stop per year.

Great solution for pet insurance

While initially hesitant about pet insurance, we decided the risk just wasn't worth it when bringing home our new rescue pup at 3 months. Healthy Paws was recommended to us, so we began paying the $30/month around this time, assuming we would never use it. Unfortunately, around 7 months, our pup began getting sick - and often. We hit the $250 HP deductible relatively quickly, where afterwards we began getting reimbursed 80% for all medical costs (minus the initial $100 vet fee each time). The process through Healthy Paws is quick, easy and consistent - one picture of your vet bill and within a week, we usually have a check in hand. Our pup was eventually diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy, where the number of tests ran us thousands of dollars. True to their policy, Healthy Paws covered 80% of everything, subsequently saving us thousands of dollars. Their customer service has also been great, and has generally made our challenging experience a significant amount easier.

Pretty good... Not great

I got Figo a year ago for my mixed breed dog to cover accidents and any illnesses that might come up. The premium for the essentials insurance was a solid deal and felt that you couldn't go wrong. I ended up having to hospitalize my dog and have treatment done in November. After filing the claim, I found out that they were experiencing significant delays in processing claims. After about six weeks, I was reimbursed (80%, minus deductible). I planned to let the policy run through its end date and start searching around and comparing rates and plans. Turns out that Figo auto-renewed the policy using an old credit card—but my policy had more than doubled in cost. There's no way to turn off auto-renew in your online profile. Come on, Figo, if you're going to make a large charge on peoples' cards, at least give them advance notice.

The only thing I don't like about Trupanion are their rate increases

The only thing I don't like about Trupanion, are their rate increases which don't make sense at all I have experienced over the years!

I think the increase of rate for our boy Zeus (pit bull) is out of line.

I think the increase of rate for our boy Zeus (pit bull) is out of line. He's a gentle sweet boy and because he's a pit bull, you raise his rates. He's a lover; kids and dogs around the neighborhood love him. At some point you will lose me due to the rate hikes. He has had no issues at all.

Your insurance is costly but what has happened to Willie is why we purchased the policy.

I think having a copay for each issue is the why you get away with saying we never raise premiums according to age.
