Great First Time Experience
We recently had our first experience filing a claim with Spot Pet Insurance, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Our golden retriever had a partial blockage, and the costs added up quickly—thank goodness we had insurance in place. Spot made the entire process incredibly easy. The claim was handled quickly, and the reimbursement helped relieve a lot of stress during an already difficult situation. We’ve owned many dogs over the years and never had pet insurance before, but this experience completely changed our perspective. We’re so glad we chose Spot and would absolutely recommend it to other pet owners.

They will cancel your plan. They canceled mine TWICE in TWO YEARS.
I asked Nationwide where I could give feedback to their decision makers and they sent me an email with this website, so...it's not what I asked for, but okay. Two stars because for the first couple of years, I loved being a Nationwide Pet customer and even recommended it to many friends. Now I deeply regret doing so. When I chose Nationwide for my new puppy in 2021, Nationwide said my Whole Pet with Wellness policy was "guaranteed for the life of the pet" and they said I would be "grandfathered in" should their plan offerings ever change. They literally sold me the product saying that. I believed them. That was a mistake. They broke their promises and assurances and in early 2025, "discontinued" our plan. They offered a much lesser plan and because my dog now had pre-existing conditions for any other insurance, I felt forced to take the My Pet Protection plan. Well guess what -- early 2026, I am notified now THAT plan is also being "discontinued." They then offer me a third plan in three years, at an astronomically high premium. We were forced to leave Nationwide and go to another insurance where now my dog has pre-existing conditions. I know none of this matters to Nationwide. But since they sent me this website to leave my feedback, maybe I can warn people considering Nationwide Pet -- DO NOT go with Nationwide. Their promises mean nothing. You cannot trust this pattern of behavior. Honestly I truly believe they want to get out of pet insurance entirely. Read online about all the pets and people they've hurt over the past three years. There are literally class action lawsuits being discussed. There are facebook groups and reddit threads where people trade horrible stories of how Nationwide screwed them over by canceling and discontinuing their policies. Nationwide's priorities are corporate profits. NOT your beloved pets. I will never trust Nationwide again for any form of insurance.

Our dog Henry has been through some hard times
Our dog Henry has been through some horrific ailments starting with bone cancer in a front leg leading to amputation, followed by myasthenia gravis, and ultimately mega esophagus. Sounds like a horror show but Henry is still with us and Trupanion has been a key support throughout.

Be aware that ER visit may not be completely covered
Be aware that they don’t cover all aspects of an emergency room visit. For example, an exam is necessary to diagnose the emergency. Not covered. Medications sent home (no prescription filled but meds to continue to treat acute episode) also NOT covered. Not very good coverage unless you pay more. They also scrounge around to get records from your general vet to see what might not be covered as a pre-existing condition. Dog had 2 episodes of swimmer’s ear that general vet miscategorized as chronic allergic dermatitis. Last episode was 2 years ago. Thus, I was alerted to the fact that it won’t be covered in the future. Disappointed that I purchased and may discontinue.

It’s the first time I have ever had pet insurance, and the fist time I ever had an emergency that really scared me with my golden retriever. I called to ask about filing a claim and customer service was amazing and guided me through exactly what I needed to do. The response time on the claim was so quick, I was amazed. So thankful to have my dog and to have had the insurance to assist with the emergency.
