I would give it 0 stars if possible
I would give it 0 stars if possible. I did the 30 day trial, and I had multiple claims put in and they didn't cover a single damn thing. This insurance company is a waste of time and money. The only way you can possibly benefit from these insurance companies is if you put your pet under a policy right at birth other than that, you're screwed.

There when you need them
I’ve been with trupanion for several years. This past month both my dogs had serious health issues with significant vet bills. Trupanion processed my multiple claims quickly (average of 24 hrs) and covered most of the expenses. I never had to worry about the estimates at the vet because I knew I was covered with Trupanion.

Look elsewhere. Private equity owned now.
First off, my premium has skyrocketed in the last couple of years, now more than double what it was when we joined. Second, they are denying more claims as time goes on, similar to how human health insurance claims to cover you but finds a way not to. Third, I feel there is absolutely a premium increase based on your usage, and other users have pointed this out on Reddit (having two dogs, making claims for one and not the other and seeing a difference in their annual premium increases). I loathe that this company was bought by private equity; that was the beginning of true downfall. I wish I had chosen one that wasn’t, but I’m stuck with it now, as my pet has “pre existing conditions” in the eyes of any other insurance. Overall, getting policy coverage payouts is too hard, since they continually ask for more documentation to slow you and have you drop off during that process; it’s a known tactic. Why 3 stars? Bec at this point, they are still paying out most claims (with extra work) and the employees are lovely. But if I was someone buying a new policy, I’d look elsewhere.

too much work on my part and one claim…
too much work on my part and one claim and rate went up. seems vca and trupanion dont really work well together on billing then i saw my rate went from 130 a month to 160 after a pre authorization for surgery but "had nothing to do with my dog's surgery". i am thinking of ending my plan as i did it since vca recommended and frankly don't see the two working together well

TruPanion is the best!
I feel so blessed to have TruPanion on my side when it comes to my dogs health. My fur-baby Mila just underwent a surgery for her joint (patella) and TruPanion covered so much of the bill that left me paying a much smaller portion. It only took a short time for them to inform me of my portion on any allowed expense. Thank you TruPanion for making our health visits so much easier!

Deductible
I didn't realize there was an overall yearly deductible. We mainly bought this insurance in case our dachshund ever had back issues and needed care which can be VERY expensive. So, until something like that happens (which I hope it never does) we will probably not meet our yearly deductible.
