My experience with Trupanion Claims dept
Filing a claim with Trupanion is a very simple and straight forward process. The support staff is easy to get a hold of and very competent and helpful. It is obvious they are pet lovers themselves.

Trupanion has always been amazing customer service wise but also the knowledge that we have insurance in case anything happens emergency wise is the BIGGEST relief!

Emily was very helpful and informative with how to file the claim. She had started it for me while on the phone, which was very helpful, given that Roxy was already at the vet for a standard teeth cleaning, under anesthesia (which is when we discovered we needed to make a decision about proceeding with a tooth extraction and root canal procedure at that moment, without even knowing how much of it would be covered by insurance). It was difficult to process everything, including the compounding expenses, but Emily made the process easier when I called to confirm if the procedure that was happening at the time would be covered - and that I could submit the estimate I received just prior to the procedure to an email address to help fasttrack the claim, since I was expecting to pay the bill in just a few short hours. A kind and calm voice along with informative information to process the claim was very helpful indeed.

Funny accounting
Disappointed. My dog had a surgery in which they removed a mass on her belly, but while she was under, they found a mass on her gums too, so they took that out. Trupanion considered this two different events and split the cost of the surgery such that it was less than the deductible, and therefore they paid nothing.

Not covered enough
I recently submitted a claim, and I submitted as told that the claim is old, when obviously is a new claim. It is clear that who process the claim is not doing a great job. I feel that for what I pay monthly am not cover enough. I have now to send everything again and make sure to call. Which I am not happy.

So far my experience has been good.
So far my experience has been good. For awhile, I had one dog with PetPlan and another dog on Trupanion. When I compared the differences in what is accepted by each company and how each company reimburses pet owners, PetPlan always came out better. If I remember correctly, I thought it might be affected mostly by PetPlan covering the vet visit charge. My dog on PetPlan saw many specialists and the $150 was covered after my deductible many, many times. That was very helpful for us. However, PetPlan resets the deductible for each ongoing condition each year. As Trupanion only requires a deductible once for a chronic condition, I can see over time it might be a big benefit. I am only giving an 8 right now because people have warned me that Trupanion is more picky about conditions than other companies. I have not yet found that to be the case, but also have had very few claims. I will be happy to fill out more surveys in the future and give Trupanion a 10 if I am pleased with the insurance.
