Unexpected kindness after losing my cat
My 8-year-old cat, Blueberry, died suddenly back in Feb 2025. It was a traumatic day, and I avoided submitting the insurance claim (or even removing her from my insurance policy). 18 months later, I was still avoiding the task. I finally submitted the claim, and in less than 24 hours (with no additional information requested), Pets Best paid my claim AND refunded me for all the months I had been paying for Blueberry's insurance after her death. Based on the terms & conditions, I don't think they had any obligation to do either. The kindness they showed with that action meant a lot to me.

PetsBest Review - Would Actually Recommend!
I've been a customer for several years, and have two pets insured. My two main complaints are that I wish it was easier to contact a real person for issues instead of engaging with AI Chatbots, and I wish the process was a bit speedier. That said, if those are the two worst things I can say about an insurance company in 2026, I think that's quite good. I've been very satisfied with all previous claims I've submitted regarding the amount covered, the detail of the EOBs, the claim submission process, the information provided by real live agents when eventually connected with them, and the actual coverage of conditions. I am impressed that I have not had to worry about being "nickel and dimed" for a claim because the condition is covered, so all costs incurred for the condition are covered. One last parting thought, that is not so much a complaint but more so would enhance customer experience, would be if PetsBest made more efforts to connect with our veterinarians regarding the Vet Direct Pay option. Most vets I've encountered and asked to use this option for have been wary because they are unfamiliar with the process, and instead of pushing for more literature due to the usually time-sensitive nature of such large cost vet visits, I have been forced to pay upfront and seek reimbursement through the normal claim process. One strong reason I stay with PetsBest is this Vet Direct Pay option, but I have never actually been able to utilize it. Given that PetsBest has and does connect with my veterinarians in the claim process, I feel it would really benefit us as customers for our veterinarians to be better informed that this option exists. I also feel that if they were more informed on the process, more vet offices would advertise PetsBest and this option to their clients, as it is well-known that many people put off necessary vet visits due to not having the funding upfront to cover these visits.

WORST COMPANY EVER! DO NOT USE THIS CORRUPT COMPANY
After months and months of providing them copies of invoices, that were mailed, and emailed twice to the claim supervisor Sharon, there is still nothing happening other than their stupid email that says We are working on it, expect delays". Well, tell it to the State Insurance Board, the State Attorney General and our lawyers, that if you have a complaint against this company (that is owned by Crum & Forster Company and offered through PTZ Insurance Agency, LTD / Fairmont Specialty Insurance Agency and underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company. I am tired of spending hours on the phone, and emails, and then being billed monthly for absolutely no service! And, get this now they will not allow myself or my husband to log into our account. After trying again today for an hour on the phone, using 2 different computers, 2 different phones, different passwords and this has gone on for months. Then the invoices I have sent to them they do not apply to our pets deductible because they say they never receive them, so we never get reimbursed! This company is scamming people left and right. Currently they owe us over $1220 dollars. DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PET INSURANCE COMPANIES OWNED BY THIS CRUM & FORSTER. Terrible experience with transfer of ownership
One of the worst experiences I’ve had with a company and their customer service. Zero communication between staff and departments. We did a transfer of ownership after the death of my dog’s former human and were waiting until the necessary documents were received from the estate to finalize the transfer. Our dog had already been in our care for a couple months at this point, so our claims were constantly denied because no one bothered to look at notes or any information on our account. Maybe Pets Best is usually decent to work with, but this was a terrible experience for us and I will not recommend them to others.

Ok so I get they don’t cover basic wellness checks but I mean damn. Trupanion totally sucks. They deny cleaning with anesthesia but require you to have yearly dental exams lol. So you must pay full for exams and then when you go for cleaning if the Vet listed tartar at all they are denied for life. I mean I brush her teeth and try my best to keep them clean but she’s 8 and well dogs need professional cleanings once and while. I pay since she’s a puppy and this scam of an insurance literally has denied every claim . Here’s the best part. I’ve only put in 1 and paid the others because I knew they wouldn’t but something like this you would think they would at least give you a few hundred bucks towards it. So bottom line is what are they paying out on ? I wish I started a pet insurance company. Just collect peoples money and never have to pay out a single claim. I think that’s called stealing. I truly got this insurance for a big emergency but the more I look into it I don’t know what emergency they would even pay out on? Pet insurance is such a god damn scam it’s ridiculous and the vets are all in on it with them. Any honest one who was retired would tell you. So now do you drop them and then the next one declines everything because she’s now older and wasn’t with them since a puppy therefore everything will be called pre existing? Thankfully I can afford the bills so far for this one. I’m sure some out there got lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it if your dog fit the criteria for a paid claim. That probably means it’s a very serious issue. Never heard a good word about this scam insurance company and would never buy a policy again or tell someone else to. Trupanion should be ashamed of themselves for taking money and raising premiums but never helping out with a single claim that I’ve ever heard of from anybody whose gotten it. Go with MetLife or I hear lemonade is decent. Just DONT get “Scampanion” ! You will pay and pay and they won’t settle a single claim unless maybe your dog needs some emergency surgery or something and I pray that it’s covered for you and your animal. Thanks for nothing Trupanion. You truly suck

Cancer treatment
My dog was recently diagnosed with lymphoma, despite excellent prognosis both from the primary veterinarian as well as the oncologist, we would have been able to afford his chemo treatment, but having Pets Best in our corner made it possible, he is in remission right now and seems to age backwards, lots of quality of life left!
