Pets Best | Pet Insurance Review

"This is my first time using pet insurance, and I'm glad I chose pets Best. Filing the claim was easy, and I got what I consider a generous reimbursement on wellness and annual exam. These are things I would do anyway for my pet, so I'm really pleased. I feel like I am protected, but I still have options. For many years I was tied to a wellness plan at a big pet brand and the benefits got less and less- plus they were rude and acted like we owed them something. Now I can go where I want with my pet, get treated with respect and still feel covered if something bad happens and she needs a lot of care. I carry the wellness plan too, so for us it's a win win. Used to be very on top and quick with reimbursement process but it has gone downhill the past couple of years. At one point there app was just not working and they knew which made it more frustrating and annoying to submit claims because it was hard to do from my phone. They also significantly increased the price this year. Now I am stuck with Pets Best because if I change, everything will be a pre-existing condition. I would have recommended them a few years ago but now, I would not recommend unless you don’t mind waiting almost 10 days to get reimbursed.

Pets best is a scam. This is my experience over a 6 year period. I insured my shitzu as a puppy. Zero health issues. Took the complete and total coverage. At first they paid small amounts for vet bills, never what they claim but something. Every year the insurance premiums went up. For a few years they paid small amounts for claims. As my dog grew older she developed an eye issue that required surgery and they paid a small percentage of the operation. I figured that I needed to continue now that she has a prexisting condition and that since she is getting older it's best to continue because some coverage is better than nothing especially if she develops a catastrophic illness in the future. Their premiums started at around $50 and ended up at $135 per month. No major illnesses have occurred ever other than the eye surgery. All claims had to do with standard checkups and vaccinations. Pets Best beginning in the 4th year started to reject all claims. No explanation just denial. Not a penny. What this company does is very simple. They string you along by paying minimal amounts while your dog is young while raising your premiums without fail year after year. As your dog gets older they payout less and less until they outright reject your claims entirely. This forces you to eventually cancel your insurance with them. This way they reduce their exposure to more serious claims as Pets age. Now if I was able to prove this, I would have taken them to court, but to due so would be more costly than it was worth. I really believe that this is their business practice. This is my experience. I just want people who are searching for dog insurance to be aware and very cautious of this company.

I have insured 3 pets over the years. Because of Pets Best I was able to make decisions based purely on what is in my pets' best interests instead of based on cost. My rescue pit bull had a chronic illness that eventually took her life and her final hospital bill was over $15k. Pets Best covered the vast majority of it. It was already an extremely devasting situation and it would have been so much worse without insurance.

Maybe a little expensive at first but they are more than fair. Prices have gone up in all categories so I don't blame then for a little bump in price. Not a bad responsive time once you file a claim. They offer tiered plans which are great.
