How to Save Money at South Etobicoke Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had an accident with my cat, and when I called this clinic I was able to come in immediately. It was determined my boy would need surgery, which they got him in the next day. I was very, very happy with the fact that they were extremely time considerate. The receptionist was the friendliest & answered all my questions and genuinely seemed like she cared which meant a lot to me in a stressful situation. The vet doctors were nothing short of great, and took such good care of my boy! I couldn't have asked for a better place to address my problem & help my cat. Place was clean, organized, welcoming. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could! Thank you so much for helping my boy! - Becky & Boots ❤️🐱

The staff here is incredible- they care deeply about our animals and it shows. I took my cat here for a lump removal and they treated him like their own, the surgery went perfectly and he’s healing like it never even happened. Thank you team!! We’re forever grateful💕🥹

Terrible place. If you love your pet, do not take them here. Based on my experience, they seemed far more focused on how much money they could get from me than on actually caring for my cat. I brought my cat in because he had fluid in his abdomen. They recommended an X-ray, claiming it would help determine the cause. After taking my cat in, I waited for hours. When the vet finally spoke to me, he didn’t even take me into a room—he briefly showed me two small images on his phone at the reception desk, which were almost impossible to see. He then said an ultrasound would be needed for more details and recommended an abdominocentesis. I agreed to the fluid removal, but nothing more. It was very clear to me that they likely already had an idea of what was wrong but chose not to communicate it. There was a complete lack of transparency, empathy, and basic respect. At no point did I feel that my cat’s well-being was their priority. A few days later, I went to another veterinarian recommended by a friend. After hearing what happened, he immediately showed concern. He performed an ultrasound in front of me, explained everything clearly, and even told me he would not charge for it. He confirmed that my cat had a tumor the size of a lemon. I was devastated. The difference in care and honesty was shocking. I cannot understand how a clinic can handle a situation this way. Please read reviews carefully before bringing your pet here. They are very expensive, and in my experience, not compassionate or trustworthy.

There’s seriously something wrong with these doctors. My cat passed away today just because of them. He was just a little baby 6 months. I took him here and they just waisted my money for check ups and said he’s all good there’s nothing wrong with him. I took him to a different vet today and that Doctor right away found that he had kidney disease. And he couldn’t make it he was too weak. He’s been having the kidney disease this whole time. And these people here did nothing. Horrible human beings. I will be suing. Don’t come to this vet.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about South Etobicoke Animal Hospital. When my corgi became sick, they fit us in with virtually no notice and immediately made us feel supported and cared for during a stressful situation. From the moment we arrived, the entire team was compassionate, professional, and genuinely invested in my dog’s well-being. They took the time to thoroughly assess him, explain everything clearly, and ensure he received the care he needed. Most importantly, they treated him with so much kindness, patience, and love that it was obvious they truly care about their patients. Thanks to their excellent care and service, my corgi is doing much better and is back to being his happy self. I am incredibly grateful to the doctors and staff for going above and beyond for us. I highly recommend South Etobicoke Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a veterinary team that combines outstanding medical care with genuine compassion. Thank you for taking such great care of my furry family member!
