How to Save Money at Prince Edward Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t begin to express how relieved and happy I am to have found a group of talented caring people that have devoted their lives to the care of our pets. It looks like the hardest job in the world to me and it’s worth every penny. At this clinic you do get what you pay for (facility, in house amenities, pet first experience + great human anxiety management). Started with this clinic about a year ago for my two cats. My 7 year old cat Luna just had a dental cleaning and extractions this week, I’d had experiences with other pets in the past at other clinics and there were always unexpected parts to the plan, they left the vet overly sedated which was scary for me. When I picked up Luna everything went to plan (even though I signed saying I was happy to deviate if needed). She looked amazing, clean, and was purring and not too wobbly. They clipped her nails and completely de matted her long hair while she was there (she’s usually very spicy) she came home in a way better mood than before! The vets were right about needing to have her teeth done, I swear it looks like she’s had whitening strips on her teeth now! The other clinics I’ve been to aren’t bad but they’re more no frills which can be a bit harsh for an owner (taking them back forth for blood work/ sending them home too soon). They made me feel really comfortable about how well monitored she would be while under anesthesia. I was so anxious and now that it’s done I’d do it again without worry easily. Communication is everything, thank you!

We had a small emergency with our dog on Saturday at noon. PEAC was able to schedule an appointment at 1:30 pm, 30 minutes before closing. They took amazing care of our dog from start to end. The place is super clean, and the staff is amazing. Highly recommend.

Thank you to Dr Turner and the staff at Prince Edward Animal Clinic, although thank you doesn’t describe my gratitude. I recently had to put down my rescue dog Paco, who when nervous showed signs of extreme aggression. I was referred to this clinic and trusted my friend. When booking the appointment I informed them of how reactionary he might become. I was deeply worried about the appointment because I didn’t want my dog to be in distress in his final moments. The staff made sure everything was extremely comfortable, relaxed and at my dogs pace. I was able to bring in my dogs personal bed and let him rest and spend as much time with him as needed in the treatment room. There was absolutely no rush or sense of urgency. He was so comfortable that he even let the doctor and assistant pet him. To know he was comfortable and was not stressed as I said goodbye is not something you can put a price on. Thank you so much for completely eliminating a factor of this process I was worried about. You are all sincerely excellent at everything your job encompasses and it is appreciated.

Excellent team.My fur baby always likes to visit Dr. Toman and his assistance. They always reply my question in detail very quickly and we feel our dog is in good hands all the time. Thank you!

Overcharging big time... 2 min visual-only exam $150, filling traveling papers for our dog $120. We actually filled most of the papers, but that didn't matter..still charged the full price. So $300 easy charge, for little over 10 minutes. Not fair.. Not coming back.. Shop around before coming to this place. Disappointing..
