How to Save Money at Eatonville Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Rizwana and the team at Eatonville Animal Hospital for the care they provided to our cat, Kinu. He had been acting strangely, vomiting, and refusing to eat, so we brought him in as soon as we could. We learned that he had urinary crystals as well as an intestinal blockage, both of which could have become much more serious if we had waited any longer. Dr. Rizwana took excellent care of Kinu, kept us updated throughout the entire process, and performed emergency surgery that helped save his life. The staff monitored him closely and made sure he received the care and attention he needed every step of the way. We truly cannot thank Dr. Rizwana and the entire team at Eatonville Animal Hospital enough. Their quick action, compassion, and professionalism made all the difference, and we are so grateful that Kinu is recovering well. We would highly recommend Dr. Rizwana and Eatonville Animal Hospital to anyone looking for a caring, trustworthy, and skilled veterinary team.

I’ve been coming here for the past two years with my cats Annie and Cleo, and have always had such a positive experience. The girls are very sweet but can be quite anxious at the vet, but Dr. Riz and her team have consistently been patient and flexible in how they approach their care. They’ve supported the girls through both routine and more stressful moments, from our kitten’s spay surgery to a digestive issue with our older cat that was quite scary (after that visit, Dr. Riz even called us in the evening to check in and reassure us, which meant a lot). What I appreciate most is how collaborative the care feels. While the team are experts, they’ve also helped us build our own knowledge and confidence in caring for our cats. Big shoutout to Aneta, Alex and Jennifer (and the resident cats!). Highly recommend to anyone looking for a thoughtful, efficient and straightforward vet.

⚠️ WARNING TO PET OWNERS: My Dog Died The only thing I can tell you is this: please think twice before bringing your pet to Eatonville Veterinary Clinic. In early November, my dog started acting very strange. He was shaking, crying when we touched him, and clearly in pain. I took him to this clinic and Dr. Rizwana told me he probably had a stomach problem and needed stomach X-rays. I trusted her. I ended up spending around $1,200 on the visit, X-rays, stomach medication, pain medication, and special “sensitive stomach” dog food sold at the clinic. The X-rays showed nothing wrong, but we were still told to treat him for stomach issues. Over the next week, Pudim did not get better — he actually got worse. He kept shaking, crying when touched, and started having trouble walking like he was in a lot of pain. My sister took him back to the clinic. Instead of looking deeper into the problem, we were told the reason he was worse was because my sister increased the pain medication. We were charged about $300 more and told to continue the same stomach treatment but my dog kept getting worse. He started losing movement in his legs. When I brought him back for the third time, Dr. Rizwana finally said she didn’t know what he had and told me to take him to an emergency hospital. At the emergency clinic, the vets immediately said that just by looking at the way he was walking and curving his back, it looked like a neurological problem — most likely Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). Nothing related to his stomach. They didn’t even need stomach X-rays because it was obvious from his symptoms. Pudim had been eating, peeing, and pooping normally the whole time. We were referred to a neurological specialist who confirmed that IVDD was the most likely diagnosis. By that time, my dog’s condition was already very advanced. And it was too late. He quickly lost the rest of his movement and became completely paralyzed. In the end, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. What hurts the most is knowing that we lost precious time. For weeks, my dog was treated for a stomach problem that he never had — even though the X-ray showed nothing and his symptoms were clearly getting worse. On top of everything, this clinic is extremely overpriced. We were charged for unnecessary X-rays that showed nothing, and the medications they prescribed were being sold for about four times the normal market price. It felt like we were being pushed into paying for treatments and products that were not only ineffective, but also unnecessary. I contacted Dr. Rizwana afterwards, extremely upset, trying to talk about what happened. She would not let me explain, would not take any responsibility for the misdiagnosis — or even acknowledge that we should have been referred to an emergency clinic from the beginning. I asked for a refund of the $1,200 I paid for the X-rays and medication. She eventually agreed to refund only 50% of that amount after making me sign an agreement in January. I only received the money this week. No amount of money will bring my dog back. My dog was part of my family. What happened to him feels like the result of a serious lack of preparation and a misdiagnosis that cost us valuable time we will never get back. If sharing this story helps even one pet owner seek a second opinion sooner, then writing this review will have been worth it.

If I could give more stars, I most definitely would. We have been with Eatonville Animal Hospital since we moved to this neighborhood many years ago. At that time we had only a cat. A few years ago, we also adopted a dog and entrusted Dr. Rizwana with her care as well. Our experience with Eatonville Animal Hospital has been amazing! I cannot express enough gratitude to the team. They have always treated us like family, made us feel understood, and cared deeply for the well-being of our furry friends. From annual checkups and vaccinations, to boarding our cat with them, and even unforseen emergency situations, Dr. Rizwana and Aneta have always been there for our furry family members and truly exceeded our expectations, handling situations with genuine compassion and professionalism. We came in a few weeks ago with an emergency, and from the moment we hit the door, they treated our cat like their own, referring us to the appropriate services and following up with us constantly. Before that, a few months ago, our dog had an accident and needed surgery. Dr. Rizwana quickly and efficient referred us to the appropriate hospital and even then followed up with us evey step of the way. It’s rare to find a team that combines such high-level medical expertise with genuine, heart-felt compassion. They cared for our best friends, and we won’t go anywhere else. It’s such a relief to have a vet we can trust 100%. Highly recommend to any pet parent looking for the best care for their furry friends!

I brought my dog 🐶 in for a check-up recently and had a great experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the veterinarian took the time to explain everything clearly. My dog was treated with so much care and patience, which really put me at ease. I am happy to have found a vet I can trust.
