How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Blue Cross Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I recently took my pitbull here as a recommendation that Shively misdiagnosed her dog so they go here now unfortunately this is not a good situation for us because this animal hospital has absolutely dropped the ball. We have still not gotten the anabiotic prescription filled because they wrote it wrong the first time right back they wrote it wrong again and it cost me an extra $140 on top of the $300. I already paid just to get medicine that I needed right in there to treat my dog took the rewritten script back to the pharmacy and it was wrong again. It wasn’t even the same script called them up explained that to them. They said we will fax over to the pharmacy today that information one day later, a notification to come pick up the new prescription to take to the pharmacy when calling and asking, I thought you faxed it we don’t fax them. I don’t know who told you that we don’t fax prescriptions to no Pharmacy somebody work there said you always going to fax it and now after all, this is done they’re telling us that we can buy the medicine at the veterinarian clinic. Why would we want a prescription to take to the pharmacy if we can buy it at the vet? Why wouldn’t you have done that from day one absolutely don’t understand. This is the worst place I’ve ever taking my animal and I would not recommend this place to no one. The lady hung Up on me and now My Wife is calling to try to get information on how much this medicine is gonna cost me again so my dog can be treated and they refused to answer the phone like their screening the calls this place is absolutely horrible. Unbelievable never in my life. Have I heard anything like this unbelievable worst place ever.

I cannot recommend Dr. Bode and the team at Blue Cross enough. They supported us through our dog’s entire cancer journey, providing not just top-tier medical care but real emotional support. Dr. Bode even checked on us after hours to make sure our dog was okay. Having his expertise and genuine compassion made a world of difference during such a difficult journey. We are forever grateful that we had Dr. Bode by our side.

Dr. Campbell and team were so wonderful and supportive in the last months of our sweet boy’s life. He spent a lot of time with us, walking us through the right decisions and helping us understand the process. We will be forever grateful.

We were referred to Dr.Campbell and Blue Cross after our border collie mix had a lobectomy on 6/17/25 due to lung cancer. We were able to get in almost immediately. Dr.Campbell is truly knowledgeable and it is evident that he cares about his patients. We never felt rushed during our appointments (we had them every eight weeks) and he thoroughly answered every question we had even if it wasn't something we wanted to hear. He is clearly a pet lover himself. Near the end of Aramis's life, he gave us his cell phone number to contact him with any questions we had. We even had a phone call with him where he helped us work through our anticipatory grief with his own anecdotes and words of wisdom. The ONLY reason I couldn't give a full five stars : Blue Cross wasn't on top of communicating with our regular vet. We had to call to remind Blue Cross to send paperwork / lab work on three occasions. Luckily, our need for their communication with our vet wasn't dire but it was certainly something to note.

Today I brought in some kittens that were unfortunately DOA. The team here immediately responded to our situation without any prior communication, and they were incredibly kind and helpful. They gave us all the information we needed to treat the surviving kittens and arranged for cremation of the ones that passed. Although it was too late to save them, I was very impressed with the promptness of care and the sensitivity to our grieving process.
