How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had the unfortunate experience of having to say goodbye to my 16 year old dog. The staff was so caring and so compassionate. They made a difficult evening as easy as possible for both my sweet pup and me. Two nights later I was back with my 6 year old, high anxiety cattle dog. Every staff member told me they were sorry for my loss earlier in the week and took exceptional care of my little guy. I simply cannot recommend this clinic highly enough. Top notch care. Affordable for after hours care. Exceptional service. Compassionate staff. Thank you for all you did for my canine family this week.

We are extremely grateful for the wonderful care our Yorkie received at your hospital. From the moment we arrived, the entire team of doctors and nurses was compassionate, professional, attentive, and caring. They took the time to care for our Yorkie with patience and kindness, and they also made us feel comfortable and informed throughout the entire process. It was clear that everyone truly cared about our pet and wanted the very best for her. We were very satisfied with the care and treatment she received. The doctors and nurses were absolutely wonderful, and we cannot thank the entire team enough for their dedication and compassion. Thank you for taking such great care of our beloved Yorkie. We truly appreciate everything you did for her and for our family.

Unfortunately we recently had to go to Urgent Vet on Breckinridge Ln for unexpected end of life care and cremation for my sweet girl cat who was 16. We came in an hurry an hour before they closed on a Saturday and didn’t have an appointment but got assisted right away. Everyone was so kind and supportive, helpful, and caring and helped so much in such an emotional and unexpected time. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience given the circumstances. Unfortunately a few weeks later, we found ourselves in a very similar situation with our 15 year old family dog, who ended up receiving end of life care with urgent vet as well- and although the circumstances are so unfortunate and heartbreaking, I’m glad that the same service, care, and supportiveness was shown to my mom and dad and siblings that my boyfriend and I received the first time around with my girl. I never write reviews but I felt that the employees of Urgent Vet did such a fantastic job in such unfortunate circumstances, and I will be forever grateful! I will forever keep the card with her nose and paw prints, her clay paw print, and the note of condolences (so unexpected and so truly beautiful, thank you.)

We were evaluated thoroughly by a nurse and met with a knowledgeable vet. Our vet laid out two treatment options. I opted for the more aggressive treatment and my dog is much improved at 24H. I was able to get the information I needed to file a claim with pet insurance They called to check on her the next day and sent records to my vet

Our community cat Shadow suffered an injury from a scuffle with another kitty. He’s protecting his turf. We were seeking medical attention for him and researched and found this facility. We made a quick reservation on their website and arrived shortly after that. Check in was easy. Shadow was seen and treated. The assistant and Dr. were very kind and caring. Shadow was very calm and made himself at home in the waiting room. We 100% recommend this place.
