How to Save Money at Plantation Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I would highly recommend Plantation to anyone! I recently dropped my dog off for a small dental procedure and everyone at Plantation that I interacted with was truly so kind. They made sure all my questions were answered and made me feel comfortable leaving my dog with them. Dr Bond was absolutely fabulous! She called and explained everything thoroughly and again made sure to answer all my questions. She is very knowledgeable and was not in a rush when talking to me. After the procedure, the staff sat with me and walked me through post-op care and medications. They also called the next day to check on Tucker. I would definitely trust them with your fur child. I cannot thank everyone there enough!!!

We had to make the decision to put our 12 yr old Akita , Hachi to sleep.. He has always been in the care of Plantation Animal Clinic. We had an appointment made very quickly within 24 hours and upon arrival were ushered into a very special, very calm room especially for this purpose. Dr Baird and Stephanie were fantastic and never rushed us at all. I had never met Dr Baird but my husband had since he had taken over Hachi's vet visits. The process was explained to us very clearly and we knew exactly what to expect with each step. The care and compassion we and Hachi received was outstanding and the fact that we were never rushed or hurried out was what we needed. We both appreciated the prayer that Dr Baird said for Hachi’s passing. Plantation had always taken care of all of our animals in good times and bad and all of their vets and employees are real heroes.

Dr. Baird is the best. She is thorough and kind. You get an immediate sense that she knows her stuff and has a genuine love for animals. She solved problems that our previous vet couldn’t in a matter of minutes. We have also seen other vets here when she isn’t available and have had amazing visits with them also!

We are an elderly couple with a small 7 lbs. 5 year-old ocherece. A very mild mannered, lovable pet very eager to please. Difficult at times to know whether she got her feelings hurt or she’s not feeling well Unfortunately, on a weekend, we got concerned something was wrong and took her to an emergency veterinarian clinic. They were extremely nice people, but their business approach was just financially draining. For obvious injuries such as broken bones or bleeding Wounds, they would be a perfect option to your regular vet, who unfortunately are usually not open on weekends or Holidays for emergency situations. They charge an expensive triage fee around $200 just to give you plans of action that are set up in three different price categories basically a good better best. Unfortunately the Good is still extremely expensive over $600 and the options in that plan had nothing to do with the symptoms Scott was having. You had to go to the most expensive plan just to get to a test that would actually apply to her situation, which made me wonder if they were really paying attention or just plugging in a program that lays out good better best options, hoping that you can afford the best which was upwards of $2000. We had to decline and waited out the holiday weekend so we could schedule an appointment with Plantation Animal Clinic. They not only triage scout quickly efficiently and very friendly, but offered a very simple solution that turned out to be what was needed for under $120!

I was very impressed with both the staff and Dr. K and being able to see the vet that day. I am very thankful I elected to go to Plantation and will continue going there for all Max's needs. I give Plantation a 10+.
