How to Save Money at Eastpoint Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love Eastpoint Vet Clinic and their staff! We got a puppy, Max, about a year ago and chose this clinic as his primary vet due to the proximity to our apartment. We have moved but still drive 30 minutes just to continue going here due to their excellent service and care. Max has unfortunately been the victim of two separate attacks from aggressive off leash dogs. Their staff has been very supportive of his healing. Gentle when they notice he is nervous and firm when he is testing boundaries. Their record keeping is incredible and they can usually guess what we're calling about before we even book the appointment because they know all of his information. Max is so excited every time he knows we're going to the vet and wags his tail the whole time!

Dr. Tooke is an exceptional veterinarian who truly cares about both pets and their owners. He is incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable, and takes the time to explain things clearly and honestly. We fully trust his judgment and appreciate his transparency when it comes to treatment options. It’s comforting to know our pets are in such capable and caring hands.

I was blown away at how wonderful everyone at this practice was when I brought our dogs there today. We have 2 rescues, 1 being a very large Cane Corso, as well as a Pug with health issues. Everyone we encountered was kind, knowledgable, and made our visit as seamless as possible. The veterinarian was thorough and put the dogs at ease. I have owned dogs for over 15 years, and I have never had a vet take the time to show and explain things the way he did today. The techs that assisted him were excellent as well. Their pricing is very fair. We are so grateful to have found them! We give them our highest recommendation.

First visit was today. Leading up to the first visit, I knew I would love this place. Jen, vet tech/ receptionist (sorry I don’t know the exact job title) is very thorough with making sure checking in was seamless. Made sure I brought all the proper paperwork. I swear she does this so she can have more time meeting your fur baby when you arrive and it’s simply lovely. You can tell this vet building has been around for awhile but it’s very clean. Dr Tooke saw my kitten (broken leg) and was very to the point, informative, honest and most importantly kind to my kitten and myself. This establishment is reasonably priced but that could be just my opinion since my kitten saw the emergency animal hospital three times in one week. So coming here for the first time and getting this remarkable service after the week that was had was a breath of fresh air. Sadie (my kitten) was so relaxed here even with a small dose of gabapentin haha. I cannot stress enough how great this place is.

We had a great experience at this vet office today. Meredith at the front desk was friendly and greeted us with a smile, and the vet tech was also very helpful and kind. The office was clean, and Dr. Tooke was caring, thorough, and very knowledgeable. He took his time examining my dog and never made us feel rushed. This was truly the best vet visit I’ve had in the 12 years of having my husky, and I felt completely confident that she was well taken care of. Their hours are also great and very accommodating. Highly recommend!
