How to Save Money at All Pets Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

All Pets was there for me during the time I needed them most. My rabbit was very sick and his regular vet was booked. I was in a panic trying to get help for him as issues in rabbits progress quickly. They offered an appointment in 20 minutes despite me being a new client, and at that point every minute counted for my little bun. It ended up being time to say goodbye, but the staff did everything they could to keep him and me as comfortable as possible. They were attentive, kind, and communicative and gave me as much time as I needed. They truly listened and cared for me and my baby. Speaking from the perspective of not only a pet parent but someone in the vet field, I am forever thankful for the team and Dr. Shacklette. You made saying goodbye a little easier. ❤️

Can’t recommend this place enough. I recently moved here and found this place online. I had to take my bunny in bc her eyes were messed up. Dr. Jewel knew exactly what was going on and helped me through the process of putting my bunny down. They provided a comfortable room during her passing. For such a devastating moment in my life she was so thoughtful and caring. I know for a fact if I went anywhere else I wouldn’t have had such a lovely experience during such a hard time. I can’t thank her enough. I’m so happy I found a vet in Louisville to take all of my pets to. I know that they will be in good hands!!

We’ve brought our rabbit here before and have always had great experiences but I think it’s important to let others know about our most recent experience. We called during office hours multiple times with no answer, left voicemails. Our rabbit ended up passing away and we don’t know why. The office still has not contacted us after a week. I would not bring another animal here due to the lack of communication we are now experiencing from this office. Reply: This is not a fake review. We visited this office in 2024 for our rabbit. I never received the texts about the closures and think it highly disrespectful to imply I am a fake reviewer because I wanted other pet owners to know how this business handled our situation. We lost Bun Bun suddenly but planned to call other vets in the morning he had passed before we could, as you may know rabbits can decline rapidly. We called on a Tuesday so a weekend cleaning closure should not have affected our calls not being returned. I’m lowering my rating due to the unprofessional response and lack of accountability/blame shifting.

I brought in my two pet rats for a checkup and concern about upper respiratory infection, and All Pets had the most amazing attitude and care towards the both of them! They were so so sweet and loving towards them. They were also very knowledgeable about rat care. They showed me how to administer both medications to my rats in detail, which was much appreciated because at other vets they didn’t take the time to do that. At the checkout they also gave me their emergency number for exotics if my girls ever need emergency care after hours, which is a real life saver. I will definitely be coming back again for regular checkups and will be recommending this vet to anybody I know who needs an exotic vet for rats.

This was my First time visiting all pets and I loved the hospitality. The nice young lady came out to take the wounded baby bunny off my hands and was very kind and informative.
