How to Save Money at GoodVets Coral Gables

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hands down, the best veterinary experience I’ve ever had. They love my baby Harper like she’s their own, and whenever she gets sick, I know she’s in the absolute best hands. Every single person on the team from the vet techs to the doctors is so caring, compassionate, and attentive. I truly couldn’t recommend this place more to all the pet moms and dads out there. Thank you for taking such amazing care of my baby Harper!

My cat did not have an appointment til later that day. But I was concerned his blood in the urine. I arrived early in the morning and he was seen right away and assessed. Very professional and compassionate. Definitely recommend their veterinary services.

I truly can’t recommend GoodVets enough. I brought out girl, Sweet Tea, here for a little over a year after she was diagnosed with kidney disease. From day one, the entire team went above and beyond to find ways to improve her health and thanks to their care, we were able to enjoy an extra year and a half with our girl. Every visit, we were greeted with smiles. The staff is incredibly compassionate, passionate about what they do, and they truly understand that our pets are family. The clinic is always spotless, and the hours are super convenient. Even though Sweet Tea was a bit of a tricky case, they found a treatment plan that improved her kidney levels and always kept me updated, making her feel like a priority every step of the way. She was cared for by Dr. Barrios, Dr. Abraham, and Dr. Martin. All were wonderful, but Dr. Martin especially holds a special place in our hearts. She was incredibly attentive during Sweet Tea’s final days, doing everything she could to help and even checked in on her day off, which meant the world to us. Sadly, our Sweet Tea has since crossed the rainbow bridge, but the team’s kindness didn’t end there. They even sent a heartfelt card offering their condolences, which we’ll never forget. When the time comes to welcome another pet into our family, there’s no question that we’ll be coming back to GoodVets. Thank you for everything you did for our Sweet Tea!!

My first visit here was great, which is why I came back, but my second experience was completely different. The nurse we had acted like she had never worked with animals before and honestly seemed like she didn’t even like them. She was very distant with my dog and seemed to have no idea what she was doing. At one point she told me I should be “happy” that my dog has fleas and not respiratory problems, which was honestly a crazy thing to say. The exam itself provided very little value. It was very quick and nothing meaningful really happened, this appointment could have been an email. I only came in because I saw one flea on my dog and needed prescription flea medication, but of course I still had to pay around $80 for an exam that gave me zero useful information. Another thing that concerns me is that they keep pushing me to bring my kitten in for a third vaccine, even though he already had his second booster only a few months ago. They’ve been repeatedly calling and insisting that he “needs” another one, which feels excessive and unnecessary to me. Another HUGE issue I have: they took my previous positive review and posted it on their website using my full first and last name without my consent. Since my name is a unique combination, it now shows up when people search for me online, which raises serious privacy concerns for me. When I called and explained that I was uncomfortable with this and asked them to remove it, they told me there was nothing they could do about it. Very disappointing experience overall.

Dr. Martin as well as the staff of Good Vets of Coralway are awesome the way they treat and resolve issues with my small dog. The attention And caring They show for my baby is outstanding down to the last detail, including reminding me Of the meds they have ordered for me so that when I come in there ready for me to pick up.
