How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Keystone Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

I have gone to Keystone for years. Excellent care, massively experienced team, they have seen many of my kittens into the world, and many out when they were very, very sick. The downside: not sure if they are taking new clients right now, so call first, and next, they are very popular, so appointments may be a ways out. If you are a client, they do their best for emergencies on weekdays; but not weekend emergencies.

Tears of joy. Writing this review after visiting the 3 vets in the area over the last 6 months. We moved from the Reno area where we thought we were getting top notch care for our 4 dogs. We had taken our 11 year old Pit-X, Zoey, to our last vet 5 time over the last 2 years for an ear problem, one trip to Keystone, found her ear was impacted with debris from lingering infection. They saw Zoey as an emergency-drop off that day, and with some great coordination over the phone from Azalea we were able to get a few growths removed while Zoey was sedated for the ear procedure. Finally Zoey was out of pain. BTW emergency visit and surgery was very reasonable. Star E. Knight, our Springer-X is a retired service dog, she retired due to a torn cruciate almost 6 years ago. Now we are managing knee and arthritis pain/mobility with a conventional medication and limits (no running, no stairs) until Star went into kidney failure on a Friday night 6 months ago, spending 3 days in Sierra Veterinary Specialists Emergency Hospital in Reno. Dr. Schwartz picked up her care after she was discharged from the hospital. Her care coordination was flawless. Star was in Keystone within 2 days, and a plan was created for her future kidney care both for maintenance and crisis. It was reassuring that Dr. Schwartz was familiar with Star's case before he entered the exam room. Had a great easy to understand and informative conversation with Dr. about Star's care and what we wanted for Star's future, Dr. listened and he adjusted Star's plan to aggressive pain management without causing anymore kidney problems. Her medications were changed to kidney "friendly" including a special formulation that was compounded at Olson's Pharmacy. Star is back to her pre-arthritis self. Star is getting around so much better and is a lot happier through the day. Thank you for giving us our dogs back their happieness and mobility.

Dr. Schwartz is very good vet. Have taken many of our pets to him for care over the years. Recently had an emergency. Our dog was bleeding profusely and they got him in and took care of him quickly. Stopped the bleeding. Saved his life. Was so grateful to Dr. Schwartz and his great staff.

Great prices, very patient with our dogs, willing to explain all costs and fees happily and set up a plan that getting multiple things done in one visit. I am so happy this vet is in town and so friendly. You walk in and always feel welcome and if your pet is being a bit rambunctious they will come get them quickly so you can do your paperwork in peace.
