How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Pet Specialists of Hawaii
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Dr. Marika Constantaras is the best. She performed multiple tooth extractions on our 15 year old 10 lb dog and he made it through the surgery without a problem. Gone was the bad breath and bad teeth. He goes for regular annual checkups and she reviews any potential issues. Great care. She is a certified animal dentist.

There are not enough words to express how grateful I am for Pet Specialists of Hawaii Dr. Song and the entire team. I know a lot of hands went into Finn's care so will reserve from naming one in fear of forgetting anyone. I found them somewhat on a whim after hours of late-night searching, feeling overwhelmed and scared, trying to figure out the best possible care for my dog after a laceration of SDF and DDF tendon. Looking back now, I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The island is so incredibly fortunate to have this entire team and it brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. From the very beginning, they treated Finn like he was their own. Not just as a patient but as a loved, valued life. Every single person we interacted with showed genuine compassion, patience, and care in a way that you don’t always find, even in human medicine. There were moments I will never forget sitting in the office, crying, terrified that we might be facing amputation. Instead of brushing that fear aside or giving false reassurance, the team met me exactly where I was. They were honest, realistic, and incredibly supportive. They walked me through every possibility with so much empathy, helping me feel informed but also not alone. What truly sets them apart is that the care didn’t stop when we left the building. They were always there to answer questions, check in, and made themselves available at all hours. That kind of accessibility and dedication is rare, and it made an unbearable situation feel manageable. Finn has been through so much, and so have I but we never felt like we were going through it alone. That’s because of the entire team. If you are ever in a position where your pet needs specialized care, I cannot recommend Pet Specialists of Hawaii enough. They are beyond phenomenal they are the kind of people you hope to find in your most vulnerable moments, and somehow, they exceed even that. Thank you for everything you’ve done for Finn, and for me. We will never forget it.
