How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Southwest Florida Veterinary Specialists

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

We took our dog Blue to them yesterday. Once I said labored breathing he was already back seeing the Dr. We were given the horrible news that he has cancer and at end life stage! The staff they were so caring and sweet and ACTUALLY had COMPASSION for what we will be going through! They said they will be taking care of Blue with his meds to keep him comfortable until that time comes... I just want to SAY THANKYOU TO EVERYONE YESTERDAY for taking care of MY BEST FRIEND 🧡......

SW Veterinary Specialists is absolutely wonderful! I have been taking my little Chihuahua, Simba, to see Dr. Nader, his Cardiologist, for close to 2 years and she and her staff take such amazing care of him! He is doing so much better under her care and his CGH has gotten better. I'm a very Happy Mommy! Thank you SW Veterinary Specialists for all you do! We love you!

I brought my 13‑week‑old puppy to Southeast Florida Veterinary Specialists in Bonita after being referred there by another clinic in Naples. The first clinic suspected possible cannabis exposure (without any testing) and had called ahead. I had no idea they had done that until I walked through the door and was immediately met with one of the most unprofessional interactions I’ve ever experienced in a medical setting. As soon as I entered, the staff member Tracy greeted me with an angry expression and loudly said, “You must be the lady who let her dog eat marijuana,” in front of other clients and my 10‑year‑old daughter. Regardless of the situation, that level of public shaming and lack of professionalism is completely inappropriate. Once in the exam room, Tracy repeatedly asked me the same questions, especially about “how much weed” my dog supposedly got into — even after I explained multiple times that I had no evidence he ingested anything and that this was only the previous vet’s assumption. During this entire time, she never examined or even touched my puppy, who was lethargic and struggling to stay awake. I held him for about 15 minutes before she finally took him to the back. Hearing my puppy crying in distress from the back was extremely upsetting. When the doctor eventually came in, she was more professional, though still quite cold. She explained that my puppy would likely be fine and that we could either leave him overnight or take him home. After the way Tracy treated us, there was no way I felt comfortable leaving him there. As we were checking out, I calmly told Tracy that her approach had been rude, unprofessional, and unnecessarily harsh during an already stressful situation. Instead of acknowledging anything, she told my boyfriend that I was “never allowed back” — which is perfectly fine, because I would never return after such an awful experience. This was one of the most unprofessional veterinary experiences I’ve ever had, especially during a moment when we were genuinely worried about our puppy.

Our experience with Southwest Florida Veterinary Specialists was during one of the hardest days of our lives. When our beloved boxer, Hank, suffered a sudden cardiac event, the team responded with urgency, professionalism, and genuine compassion. Despite every effort to save him, we ultimately lost Hank, but we will always be grateful for the care he received and the kindness shown to us during such a devastating time. The doctors and staff treated Hank with dignity and treated us with empathy when we needed it most. They took the time to explain what was happening, answered our questions, and supported us through an unimaginable situation. No pet owner ever wants to find themselves in those circumstances, but if you do, you want a team that cares as much as they do. We are deeply thankful for the efforts they made for Hank and for the compassion they showed our family.
