My 1 year old Havanese dog that we got…
My 1 year old Havanese dog that we got from a breeder we noticed around her 1 year birthday that she was limping and pulling her right hind leg up. I took her to the vet and they X-rayed her. The diagnosis required a hip surgery of $2200.00 plus rehab. I purchased the hereditary portion of the coverage. The claim was denied because it was found a few days before the 30 day wait period. They call it pre-existing and not hereditary even thought the 2 vets called it hereditary. What a sorry insurance provided by what is thought of as a quality company. I read through a lot of these reviews and see overall it is a crappy company the AKC has chosen to work with. Are they not reading these reviews.

Save your money, don’t sign up for this.
I regret signing up with this company. They always find reasons to not cover any part of “illness” claims, not even diagnostic testing, even when an accident was present, they will justify not paying a claim by saying no coverage for “illness”. If you select this company be prepared to pay hundreds per year for claims to be denied, poor customer service, and more time than it’s worth trying to fight to get payments for claims only for no favorable outcome and empty promises. The marketing by this company was also misleading (only pre existing conditions are covered under a certain pet age, which is not made apparent while signing up!). I do not recommend whatsoever.

Be very careful with this company
Be very careful and understand how they define a pre-existing condition. From my experience, they can deny claims based on a pre-existing condition for a condition that never existed - a condition was investigated, but when the test came back negative and no diagnosis or treatment was ever provided, they still claimed that the investigation was covered by their definition of pre-existing.

DON'T, SERIOUSLY JUST DON'T
They gave us a 40% increase without notice and just pulled the money out of our account. I called the same day and cancelled, they tried to hit me for a $3 service charge. The way they did it was shady as well. The CS rep I was talking to kept saying I was approved for a "full" refund until the very end of the call, literally the last thing she says as she's about to release the call, "And there's a $3.00 service charge" Needless to say I blew a gasket, we'll see if they do the right thing and give it back because that is just the lowest of the low. Seriously, absolutely no notice what-so-ever that the rates were going to jump like that and just steal the money out of the account. Then when I confront, they grab $3.00 back to cover their expense for transferring back to me, the money they stole out of my account, without telling me of the increase. What kind of company does that? As a side note, they never paid a single penny for any of our dogs expenses in the years we've had the policy. So they made a tidy bundle on us already. I wish there was a way to get that back without a ton of legal wrangling, I really do.
Update: As expected, they DID NOT do the right thing and clawed back $3. The only consolation that I have is that by complaining and insisting on an escalation I made them burn way more than $3 of FTE time. Idiots.

You pay for what?
TERRIBLE experiences with them. You pay for coverage and they cover next to nothing. They keep trying to get you to upgade to something that doesn't cover what you need either. They deny often and you get tiny reimbursements. We are definitely looking elsewhere.
