How to Save Money at Dunedin Animal Medical Center & Pet Boarding

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give 10 stars it still wouldn’t be enough! I have taken my dig there since she was 3/4 months old - she would have turned 10 years old this September. They have always been very patient and supportive but these last couple of months they have been extraordinary! Georgia ended up with an abdominal mass and then a torn CCL and she was up and down and I was a wreck. They were nothing but honest, supportive and most of all patient. Dr. K has the best bedside manner and made me feel informed and comfortable. The love they showed to my Georgia was nothing but genuine love for what they do. The decision to put her down was extremely difficult and they were there every step of the way. Jennifer has been there since we first came and she was there with us through it all and I can’t thank her enough. Georgia and I were given privacy and all the time I wanted with her. It was handled with so much dignity, honor and respect - it made a difficult time bearable. Look no place further for your fur-babies they will be very well taken care of.

I, too, saw a review that was SO far out of character for Dunedin AMC & felt compelled to share my experience from yesterday. For starters, I traveled an hour (one way) just to go back to Dunedin AMC as I trust them with my 8.5yr old Morkie (Violet). She needed current vaccinations, a Cytopoint shot & bloodwork for her upcoming Dental cleaning appointment. The Vet tech, Sarah, was absolutely AMAZING (as they all are-the front desk, techs & Vets!) She was patient with me in answering my 1,323 questions 😅, my Violet LOVED her & she went above and beyond with everything. THAT is how this clinic treats their patients-with care. (Violet ❤️s Sarah!) I've used clinics in the past where I have felt that they were solely money-driven but I have never gotten that feeling with Dunedin AMC. What truly set them apart was at our 1st visit in 8/2025, after I had discussed the skin issues that Violet had been having with the Vet, he had recommended an outside company to use. I downloaded the app & ordered the supplements for Violet's food and it has helped tremendously! Other Vet offices (in the past) recommended and sold me expensive prescription food that never worked but Dunedin AMC didn't do that. They listened & provided the best solution which sets them apart from so many other clinics. Short-story made long😅: I HIGHLY recommend Dunedin AMC for the care and treatment of your pets!!! 👏🏼🐾

Absolutely awesome team here. I've been going to this clinic for years with different pets and they are always super helpful, patient and kind. My dog had an emergency this past weekend and we had to run him to the clinic twice with no appointment scheduled. The team not only fit me in between surgeries one day but also stayed late with us the next.

I had recently moved to the area with my two dogs who are both suffering from cancer. My Rosie took a turn for the worse and needed to be seen ASAP. I did a quick search on the different Veterinarian offices in the area and chose Dunedin Animal Medical Center & Pet Boarding. What a great decision! I called them in the morning and they got me right in that day! They were so caring and compassionate both to me and my pet. The right meds were prescribed and the price was reasonable for the entire visit. Rosie is being kept comfortable and is doing better! What a blessing! I’m so thankful for the care she received and I highly recommend this office!

I cannot say enough good things about Dunedin Animal Medical and the incredible care they provided for my 6-year-old Rottweiler when he was experiencing back leg pain. I was an emotional wreck and extremely worried about what might be wrong, but from the moment we walked in, the entire staff helped put my mind at ease. The front desk team and veterinary technicians were compassionate, helpful, and reassuring throughout the entire visit. They took the time to answer my questions and let me know that everything would be okay. The doctor was knowledgeable, informative, and explained my dog's condition and treatment options in a way that was easy to understand. What stood out most was how they treated my dog as if he were their own. The level of attentiveness, kindness, and genuine concern they showed was truly exceptional. On top of that, their prices were very reasonable, which made an already stressful situation much easier to manage. Not all heroes wear capes, but the team at Dunedin Animal Medical certainly loves animals and goes above and beyond for them. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my best friend and giving me peace of mind when I needed it most.
