How to Save Money at Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation and their entire team. We initially brought our Labrador there for an assessment after our primary vet recommended further evaluation, as his X-rays appeared to show arthritis. However, his condition was rapidly declining and it became clear he needed more advanced diagnostics such as an MRI or CT scan. From the very first phone call, every single person we encountered showed incredible compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. The front desk staff patiently answered all of my concerns, helped us safely get our dog from the car into the facility, and made an incredibly difficult situation feel supported every step of the way. Dr. Annie was especially amazing. Her knowledge, concern, and compassion were evident both in and out of the exam room. At one point during our dog’s rapid decline, we reached out and left a message fully expecting to hear back once she returned to the office — instead, she personally responded within an hour on her day off. After UF informed them that we ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down, Dr. Annie personally emailed her condolences. That meant more to our family than words can express. There was also another doctor on staff who went above and beyond for us. Before the appointment even began, he personally came out with a technician to help get our dog safely out of the car and into the facility. He later also helped fit him for a harness and reviewed our concerns while Dr. Annie was away, with the front desk promptly relaying his recommendations to us. You simply do not find this level of care, communication, and compassion everywhere — especially as a brand new client. Although we unfortunately never had the opportunity to move forward with therapeutic services due to how advanced his condition was, we absolutely would have trusted this team with his care. We highly recommend this facility and truly trust that your animal will receive proper care and benefit from their services.

Best decision I ever made for my dogs. I’ve been bringing my dogs to Florida Veterinary Rehab for over eight years, and I cannot recommend them enough. It all started with my chocolate lab, Apollo, who was treated there for laryngeal paralysis. The care he received made a lasting impression and is why I continue to trust them with all of my dogs. Rudy, my French bulldog, has been going for over 8 years, and I truly believe he has lived as long as he has because of their exceptional care. Grace, my 6-year-old Labrador retriever, goes for preventative maintenance to stay active and healthy. Even our 17-year-old Jack Russell mix, Harley, is now receiving support after vestibular episodes. The entire staff is amazing. They are kind, compassionate, and truly treat your pets like their own. You can feel how much they care the moment you walk in.

My little queen, Reina, has been under the care of Dr Annie, Dr John and an amazing staff for a torn CCL. The attention, knowledge and professionalism of all in this office has been exceptional. I wish my personal medical care was half as good 🥰

I cannot say enough positive things about Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation and Dr. Lisa Mason. When my dog, Harley, suffered a stroke a few days ago, I was understandably scared and overwhelmed. Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation worked me in immediately, and I was able to see Dr. Mason the very next day. From the moment we arrived, the level of care, compassion, and professionalism was exceptional. Dr. Mason took the time to thoroughly assess Harley, explain what was happening in a clear and reassuring way, and outline a thoughtful plan for both immediate and ongoing care. She never rushed the appointment and made sure all of my questions were answered. She spent time with us, and that really meant a lot to me. Just as importantly, she treated Harley with such gentleness and respect that it was clear she was in expert, loving hands. The entire team was incredibly supportive, responsive, and kind to both Harley and I. During a really difficult time, they provided calm guidance, genuine empathy, and outstanding veterinary care. I left feeling informed, hopeful, and confident that we were exactly where we needed to be. I am deeply grateful for the care Harley received and I cannot recommend Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation highly enough. If you are looking for skilled, compassionate, and truly exceptional veterinary rehabilitation care, this is the place. Thank you, Dr. Mason!

We are fostering a 7-1/2 month Golden Retriever tripaw that was born with a stump for his front right limb. We are working on strengthening his core. He loves it there and his physical therapy has improved his balance immensely.
