How to Save Money at Advanced Veterinary

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been using Advanced Veterinary and Dr. Jackson for over 10 years, through two dogs, and we truly couldn’t ask for a better veterinarian. From day one, Dr. Jackson has earned our complete trust. He takes the time to get on the dogs’ level, makes them feel comfortable, and treats them with so much patience, kindness, and respect. His knowledge and compassion are unmatched. Our first dog faced cancer and seizures, and during one of the hardest times of our lives, Dr. Jackson and his entire team were incredible. They consistently checked in on us and our dog, walked us through every option with care and honesty, and made sure we felt supported every step of the way. After a little over a year, when we unfortunately had to say goodbye, Dr. Jackson was truly compassionate during our grieving process and when we had to say goodbye in the office. We will always be grateful for the way he handled such a heartbreaking moment with so much empathy. With our new dog, Dr. Jackson immediately jumped in to help us navigate a few illnesses and behavioral issues, once again showing the same dedication, patience, and genuine care. If you’re looking for a veterinarian who truly cares about both you and your pets, I cannot recommend Dr. Jackson and the team at Advanced Veterinary enough.

Man, Dr Jackson really is a caring and honest vet! I will drive my animals 30 mins from home just to bring them to his office. He doesn't overcharge or perform unnecessary test or procedures just to make more money from your visit. He's affordable and really an excellent vet! He takes his time with you as well as your pet. I never feel rushed or unheard when I take my animals to him. I'm glad we have a vet like him locally. They are hard to find!

I would highly recommend Dr. Jackson and his staff! They are all so friendly and thoughtful. I just wish I had found out about them sooner. I started taking, Emmi, my yellow lab dog, to Advanced Veterinary about a couple months ago. I was told by another veterinarian that some masses could not be removed. Took her to Advanced Veterinary, and within a week Dr. Jackson and his team removed both masses. Dr. Jackson came highly recommended to me by some friends that take their dogs there. He and his team are so thoughtful. Dr. Jackson is so compassionate. I recently had to put my dog, Emmi, down. She had been my sidekick for 14 years. He gave me every option and explanation to what he could do, but in the end putting her down was the best option for Emmi. It put an end to her suffering I can't give the doctor enough praise for being so compassionate in my situation. Again, I highly recommend Dr. Jackson and his staff!

Dr. Thomas Jackson and his staff are Rock Stars!!!! We were introduced via a pet rescue from Miami and Karma was new to us and Dr. Jackson. She is an American Bulldog and was used solely for breeding. Dr. Jackson estimated she had 25+,- litters and had to peel her uterus away from the inside of her cavity. He took amazing care of her! We have used Dr. Jackson for our other two dogs as well. We cannot say enough about their help and caring for our pets.

Dr. Jay took care of Tiny Tim today. I was very upfront and honest with us where we were at on managing his congestive heart failure. We could see he was Compassionate. Julie and Emily were fabulous! It was nice to see your front office. That’s organized for a change at the Vet office. Thank you guys. I highly recommend you.
