ASPCA | Pet Insurance Review

Be wary when selecting any pet insurance provider, read all the fine print. We had the insurance for a couple of years when our poodle developed a growth on her anal gland, the vet monitored it for some months then at the vets advice we opted to have it removed as it was growing. Because the growth was discovered during one year of insurance and removed during the next insurance year (which could be over a period of only a day, depending upon when your insurance year starts and ends), the claim was considered a "Previous Condition" and denied.If human insurance companies did this, it would cause a bit of an uproar, but pet insurance companies, in my opinion, have found and use to the fullest extent, the ultimate legal rip off.

I adopted a Puppy from a Local Animal shelter. She in the first year of her life, had some medical issues and without my ASPCA pet insurance, it would have been hard for me to get her the care she needed. It also covered her normal care and vaccines. It even covers the Flea prevention and Heartworm preventative.

We have a varied group of animal companions (or companion animals if you must), all of varying ages. We decided to try pet insurance and, after all the research we decided to go with ASPCA. We're really pleased that we did. We've been with them now for two years and will be renewing soon for our third. We have a variety of plans, because of the different circumstances of our pets, and we love the flexibility offerred that allows us to pick & choose. Every claim we've submitted has been either approved or denied within a reasonable period of time, and the denials were explained in clear language (usually just not part of the plan coverage for that pet). I am a medical professional and, frankly, if human health insurance was as straightforward as the ASPCA plan, we'd be in MUCH better shape! A concrete example: Our Pomeranian had eaten something (or maybe too much food) and was having terrible listlisness, no appetite and no "output". We were able to face down her $500+ bill with relative calm as we knew some portion would be paid by ASPCA insurance. Would we have taken her in and had her taken care of otherwise - of course - did this allow us to do so without putting us in the poorhouse? Yes. AND we weren't forced to make a choice of who got care when, the same day, our 1 yr old shepherd turned up with a laceration on her face. My dog, Bella, is an almost three-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Poodle mix (Cavapoo). The ASPCA pet heath insurance has sent prompt payments for a gastrointestinal infection and ear infection. What I also like about the ASPCA insurance is the ease of submitting a claim. I just go online and fill out a claim form, print it out and fax it in. They send an email confirmation and a check arrives in the mail promptly – EASY!

I've had coverage ever since getting our bulldog a couple of years ago. She is like a typical child, running, playing and having to go to the doctor to get a scratch looked at. The coverage gives the comfort of our dog being taken care of and getting reimbursed for the vet expenses. Recently her eye got scratched and had to get several medicines which were costly. The coverage reimbursed for most of the charges and that really helped. It just gives you more peace of mind to know that there is coverage for pets also.
